I've had numerous gay friends in the past and I think they're just the same as everyone else. Sure there are some ranting raving gays that give the rest a bad image, but they're in a very small minority. There are extremists in every social group that give the rest a bad name (who can say Islam?).

Believe me, they're normal people and you wouldn't even know most are gay unless they came out and told you.

I'd love to make an important point that will sway people, but I dont think anyone is listening to anyone else here.

I don't know about you guys but every TV I've had since 1990 or so is programmable, allowing me to delete any channels I don't want to see. I delete the televangelist channels, home shopping, CMT, etc., and I'll delete Homovision too. I don't see the problem.

I do think it's funny that there is Black TV, Women's TV, and now Gay TV. Can you imagine the outcry if you made a channel called Hetero White Guy TV? Oh wait, we have it already, it's called TNN.

Keiran, comparing homosexuality and pedophilia is completely off base. As I've noted, what consenting adults decide to do is up to them as long as it doesn't hurt anyone. Drinking and driving hurts people. Pedophiles certainly hurt people. Being gay doesn't hurt anyone.

It is amazing how well thought and objective people can be on so many issues... till they hit this one and start making rationalizations that wouldn't stand up to a jury of 6th graders.

Phyisioligically there is no justification for homosexuality.

It is a psychological orientation at best, environmental at worst.

That is your opinion and you are welcome to it. I believe you are wrong. It is however, just an opinion so drawing a logical conclusion from it is also wrong. see below.

If on the one hand it is psychological then that would suggest a "cure" is possible, assuming a person wanted to be cured. If it is environmental, then it seems the worst thing we can do is provide an environment where it is considered "normal".

No one wants to be gay. They just are. Thats my opinion. Does that make any difference....NO! Whether it is a choice or not they deserve the same rights and priviledges as any American. They should be treated with the same respect as any American.

Your opinion doesn't matter in terms of their acceptance. Tolerance is not an option in our society it is a necessity. We should be directing our anger at the exclusionists. Teaching tolerance in our schools is a matter of survival as a society. Tolerance is the cornerstone of everything Bin Laden hates about our society.

I agree with GH for some reason. We have a liberal government here in Australia, but they're more right than left and they're also called conservative. Go figure.

Far leftist liberals like to make claims about being tolerant but this usually means tolerant to things they believe in and anyone elses opinion is considered as intolerance.

My personal view isn't because I'm a 'tolerance' activist or a liberal, but because I like people. If you're a good person I'll like you. Doesnt matter if you're gay, black, middle eastern, female, jewish or whatever. People are people. Everyone should be judged on their merits not on their sexual preference, religion, race, social status or anything else.

Both could well be natural. If you believe that homosexuality is natural and that nobody chooses to be gay just as nobody chooses to be straight, then whos to say anybody chooses to be or not a pedophile.

Throughout history there have been times and cultures when homosexuality has been more accepted by the population at large, the most famous examples are of course Greece/Rome and associated civilizations. Homosexuality is also widely, though not universally of course, accepted in modern and especially liberal/progressive western society.

Ok nothing too bad yet? No tears I hope....

Througout time what we would now call pedophilia and has been widely acceped and practiced in various cultures as well. Again quite notably in the Roman world and also in Asia/Oceania, IIRC it is still praced in PNG to some extent.

Well whats the point?

50 years ago nobody could have imagined that homosexuality would be so common and acceped and openly practiced let alone taught in schools. Everybody who was "normal" knew and accepted that homosexuality was abnormal.

So I pose this to you all:

Any pedophile supporters out here willing to express themselves in 2002? Anybody?

OK now you may cry, but please remember that oh so famous tolerance.........

I am 15 and personally this makes me sick. I have a younger brother and he had(had they fired him do too parental complaints) a gay teacher. If i had ever sen that man acting thing but the most straight man on earth i would have personally strangled him on the spot. If my brother ever came home and said some piece of homo propaghanda i would find who poisoned him and find them out. This is not a mental disease i want my brothjer having. It will ruin his life. I am just steaming over the Gay Inuendo i see all over MTV nowadays, in fact, i dont watch it any more because of that. Oh and then the gay dolls. The grizzly dolls they are barbies but are men with well private parts. They sell them at a local TOY STORE, not a gay shop a TOY STORE, i admit its not an all-kids toy store but that is where their buisness is at. I hear UP sued them for making a doll in a UPS uniform, they had to remove it, destroy the inventory, and pay $100,000.

Oh and yall ever heard of captain midnight, they guy who pirated the HBO sattelite in the late 80s in fury at them going to pay system. Now that would be a good idea. But this time lets blow it up instead. Or crash it into their GaY StUdIoS.

But also on your fact that most Pediofiles are normal, reason normal people outnumber gays 19:1 only .05 of america is gay, thats the estimate because they think that many wont come out of there holes. So its prob. more like .01 or something. If you can give me ratios of pediofiles to number of normal people versus pediofiles versus studmuffins then that m be legit well till then im out.

Homosexuality is most certainly 'abnormal', but so is punk rock, and there's nothin' wrong with either of 'em.

I made no direct moral equation of homosexuality and pedophilia, all I said was that both could be natural.

And I said they were both more accepted at various times and in different cultures than at others.

I said homosexuality wasnt as accepted in the west 50 years ago.

I said pedophilia isnt accepted in the west now. Most "normal" people consider it disgusting immoral dirty sick dangerous deviant unnaceptable bizzare freaky and openly shun and legaly punish its practioners.

I see no direct comparison to gays here, do you?

You say they are both abnormal behaviors. Shall I assume you consider them less normal than heterosexual relationships between consenting adults?

While you're up there on that moral high point Kratzer... just note who is calling whom names and questioning intelligence and stuff.

As far as cliche responses are concerned, I'm a little tired of the ol' "You're just threatened by your repressed feelings" response to anyone that opposes homosexuality. I've said it doesn't belong in schools and I think it's abnormal. That is all. YOU have read into it whatever it is your agenda is calling for.

Seeker's comparison of gay men grabbing bellybutton in a bar seemed ok to you, why not my comparison to pedophiles? You object because pedophiles "hurt children"? That wasn't my point. My point is, "Do pedophiles choose to be pedophiles?" Kinda puts them right there with gays, doesn't it?

I said there is no physiological reason to be gay- got evidence to the contrary? My evidence against it is the design and purpose of genitalia? And you have....?

What's left then? Pyschological or environmental, right? Now then, pychological suggests one can be cured, assuming this is an affliction one desires to shed. OTOH, if a person is gay because of their environment, it would seem we could turn people gay by placing them in an environment conducive to such an event. Get my drift? Either way we go, it doesn't belong in school.

You see, to me no matter how you look at it this isn't something I wish to expose anyone's kids to, especially not mine. Your argument is we need tolerance- and Tah Gut was even kind enough to link my line of thinking to bin Laden (talk about over the top!). I am tolerant, but only to a point. I refuse to believe we need to teach gay or lesbian studies in a public school setting.
