Personaly I think they should consider themselves lucky to even be able to work as a non-citizen. Suck for them, sure, but life could be alot worse. I hate to say this, but maybe they should head back to their own countries for a few years and work as screeners there.

Funny part is they say that we can't fire the non-citizens because we'd lose too much experience (paraphrased). I was kind of hoping that when the comprimise was reached about them being federal employees that we'd have a whole new batch of screeners. Looks like we've got the same ones only soon they'll be feds and have a job for life.

Why not have cops do it? They're always looking for spare work as security guards anyway. Seems that this could be a perfect match...

Aren't greencards only temporary things- like work visas- that only last until you become a US citizen? You have to get them renewed every year or something until you've lived here for 7 years?

I know I'm going against the tide here, but I think that this is just one more reason that the military should be doing this job, like they do in countries that really do well at security - i.e. Israel.

A legal immigrant has a permanent resident status that he can hold indefinitely. He may retain citizenship of other country at the same time. "Greencard" (not really green now) is his main document and he is issued a "reentry permit" or "travel document" instead of a blue International US Passport.
After a period of 5 years he can apply for citizenship and get it in about a year if he/she passes an exam. An exception is marriage to a citizen or US military service that cut down that time to 3 years.
Double citizenship is not recognized by US in most cases and must be surrendered (Israel is one exception IIRC).

Before law a permanent resident is not distinguisheable from a citizen in most cases.
Non-citizen can serve in US military but does not vote or subject to jury duty.

Some defence-related jobs that require clearance do require citizenship but do not differentiate between born and naturalized citizen (the only difference I could find is inability to be elected President).
I guess if you get trouble abroad, you are much likely to expect US government intervention if you are a citizen then a resident.

Sounds like those employees have never considered their job defence or security-of-the-country related - which is a good indication that they are not right for the job.

People in question here are green card holders, as such they have same rights as pernament citizens, other then voting or holding the top secret clearance.

They are screened heavly, and only the lukiest ever get the green card, which still remains a dream for millions of those who are here illigaly.

To require citizenship from a airport screener is silly, seeing as we do not require citizenships from those who fight for USA. I've entered US Navy with greencard, and didn't become a citizen till after i left the service.

SFO (San Francisco International Airport) security is almost 90% Philipino, everywhere you walk around at SFO you hear Tagalog....... I wonder if they discriminate against non Piliponos in their hiring practices? They dont need any protection from anybody at SFO Tahgut.

I know you wont understand, I know you think non-white people are helpless little victims that need glorious liberal white knights cruisading on their behalf. Thats OK if it makes you feel better.....

That statement shows that your either a ignorant or stupid bastard. I was born here buddy, it was my land long before we allowed it to become yours. You know why don't you go back to Poland and help out YOUR country, I'm sure they could use the help.

I admit it is fun watching you be an ass, but you read way to much into my statement. Please point out where I said that having a passport made anybody superior? Or where I said that I was more worthy than another person? LOL Grun, Once again you have shown the incredible ability to type without engaging your brain. I never mentioned non-white and the law never mentioned non-white. If a person working in SFO is going to lose his or her job due to this law then an injustice has been done. Especially if that person is a legal resident as I mentioned.

I once managed at a distribution center, and there was a high percentage of filipinos in that workplace also. We didn't discriminate towards them, they would just have friends and family come in and apply. We were bound to hire some. The people I knew always sponsored family to emmigrate to this country. Many were extremely well educated and willing to work a minimum wage job to be in America.

Let's see... "silly' imigrants as a title, since it is apparently silly to hope to keep your job and feed your family...

You clearly suggest that they are only interested in nice little fed jobs so that they can free load for the rest of thier lives. Then you make off hand reference to the "experiance"... and you follow up with the typical narrow-minded "go back to thier own country" crap.

And this whole time you don't even know the difference between an illigal immigrant, and pernament resident.
