Attempted kill steal?
« on: January 17, 2002, 02:53:38 PM »
Was flying in the MA today and I got into a 1vs1 fight against a P51.  We were having fun until another friendly came (haa) and started making gun passes at the P51 (I was on his tail firmly).  I promptly typed in "haa screw off".  To which I recieved no reply.  Then another plane (Cathy) joined in and started making passes on the P51 I was dogfighting.  Now heres the situation.  I was firmly on the 6 of a P51 in my LA7.  These 2 'friendlys' came in and tried to still my kill.

Just when Rude stops his endeavor, a new contender emerges from the fray with a promising future. You were on the 6 of a P51 in a La7 and it took you so long to kill it that 2 others had time to make multiple passes on it? hmm.....

Only way to battle that is to get your kills faster.  You wanna feel silly?  Wing with Leviathn and try to clear his six.  While you're manuvering to help he outturns both you and the guy you're trying to clear and kills him first.  Talk about feeling useful.  Teaches you to get to where you need to be as fast as possible and shoot right though.

I had a kill stealer I had to laugh at it was so ridiculous the other night... here's the situation:

4 airplanes in a row.

Up front, the bad guy in a P38.  Right behind him, me in a 109G6.  Right behind me, a bad guy in a Spit V.  Right behind the Spit V, a friendly in something or other, coming in hot.

I shoot up the P38, blowing his booms and elevators off, and his carcass starts to flip wildly on its journey to earth.  Seeing the Spit coming up my 6, with the friendly on its tail, I pull up into a big, climbing turn, the Spit V commits, and he is in the absolute perfect position for the friendly to wax him in the climb - but lo! the friendly continues straight, and fires wildly trying to shoot the carcass of the P38  before it hit ground.  Then, of course, the Spit V opens up, and I have to run like a scared bunny.  Now THAT is an attempted kill steal.

Dunno about the rest of yas, but I always try to "mark" my chosen targets in the first burst. A quick "rudder walk" followed by a quick "stick bounce" and voila, you have a big T strafed into the wing.

Now I KNOW everyone that sees my "T" just breaks off the target and lets me finish him. Of course, some of you guys need to check those wings a little closer before you trip the trigger. I think some of you may have mistakenly killed my marked targets. I hope you'll be gentlemanly enough to stop doing that.

Thanks!

.......

Yeah, where is Rude when he's needed, anyway?  :D

I guess alot of my animosity comes from the fact that I originated from "Fighter Duel".  In fighter duel you chances of winning were dependent on you flying skill.  In Aces High your chances of winning a fight are dependent on how many planes launch from your airfield.  The P51 and I were in a very tight fight, he was scissoring hard, so was I.  We both were firing snapshots at each other.  I had worked hard to get behind this P51 and I thought I was deserving of the kill.  When I saw these two 'friendlies' making gun run it made me mad.  In fact, one of the friendlies actually hit me with its 50 cals (it was a spit).  Not enough to crash him though.

Yeah, it is irritating now that I think about it.  Why don't those 400 people break off into 200 dogfighting pairs like they're supposed to?

Is that what that "T" was for? My bad.....I'm sure I'll never let it happen again. :D

I stole a kill the other night, or so I was told.

I'm very low and in the middle of a furball, when a spitty comes outa nowhere and flys in front of my F6 at 200 yds......whats a guy to do? He wasn't smoking, but he was doing some amazing evasives. So I killed him.
Thats when I got the "you stole my kill " message. I apologized, realizing the evasives may have been due to a lack of one or more control surface.
Then I thought "STOLEN KILL" wtf? It was a red guy...So he needs to die as quickly as possible right? There are no stolen kills in the MA. If I blow a guys wing off and some countryman blows off the other wing....so be it. If ya want to duel go to the dueling arena.
If I see a countryman saddled up I will hang high and try to wing him with a loose duece. But I don't give a crap who gets the kill, and if I got an opening I'm in.

The MA is a team game IMHO.

that is all

It's very simple really:

A stolen kill is when somebody attacks a bandit that for all practical purposes is already dead.  Kill stealers exist in large numbers, and they ain't going away.

Now, if you and two others are hard on the six of a bandit, that bandit is already dead.  The moment you put him in range of the bottom feeders, he died.  So what the hell are you doing chasing a dead bandit? Talk about stealing a kill! You're taking one from the guys who can't get one any other way!  Jeezus, at any point in the main arena, there are 200 bandits to choose from; don't get attached.  Climb up and kill somebody else.
The thrill ain't in racking up the score; it's in the hunt.

Sorry but...I'm so sick of seeing La7's I'll purposefully steal a kill from one with the same enthusiasm I put into killing them. :D  Just me.
