Tone was gone before this happened.  Here is what he posted on the Warbirds BBS about it.  This was on December 29th, 2000 at 11:47am

<clip>
Sorry I was not more proactive in announcing this, but frankly I've not cared to think about it more than I've already done so. But, after riling one WB squad pretty thoroughly, I thought I should post this to the WB community.
I know most of you have RW already installed. But for any who go to download and re-install the Windows version of RW, you'll find that the installer is quite different and it necessarily involves installation of an unrelated application entitled "Gator" (a browser companion that offers "coupons" -- well presented but salesy).

Gator is probably not the sort of thing many WarBirders would choose to add to their computing day .. and at the moment at least, it appears that getting and installing the latest RW requires you to do so. But, for you guys who have generally been a discreet and supportive circle of friends who have guided RW through thick and thin, I wanted to point out that the old Gator-free installer yet lives at

(Link Deleted by instruction)

That said, I will ask that you not post that link in other forums, but feel free to direct fellow WB'ers to this post. I do not want the world going to get that version, as the parent company has recently laid off 44% of the staff (including several WarBirders), and the stock is trading at 5% of its level a year ago.

Feel free to use the older installer referenced above, but if you recently downloaded the Gator-laden one, please keep this perspective in mind before bemoaning the horror of having to hit a button to uninstall Gator.

Thanks, and have a fun New Year.

The sim pilot comes first to Tone. That has always been the case, and always shall.

Farewell from the BattleCom Team

We've grown into quite a community, have we not? And through this community, we've grown together, using voice technology to make this world a smaller place. After 3 years, we've decided that it's time to take the next bold step in gaming.

Unless you've been living in a hole for the past year, you already know that the "next bold step" is SideWinder Game Voice, our complete solution to help bring the full power of your voice into your gaming experience. We're excited about the direction voice communication is headed, and for the opportunities that Game Voice represents. If you've appreciated Battlecom, we're sure you'll love Game Voice.

Unfortunately, with every bold step forward, there's a little bit of discomfort. After November 17th, we'll be picking up our bags and heading over to www.gamevoice.com,  and support for BattleCom will discontinue. While support@shadowfactor.com will permanently shut its doors, the Battlecom Web site, including the BattleCom bulletin boards, Support, Compatible Sound Card and Games lists, and Public Server List will remain. In addition, the BattleCom client and server will continue to be available for free download.

As part of the transition, we're running a contest—15 lucky registered BattleCom owners will win a free Game Voice. Head over to the Contest area to enter. Not a registered BattleCom user? We'll be running a Game Voice contest for all BattleCom users in the near future.

We at Shadowfactor want to thank you for your continual support of Battlecom. This isn't the end of the book—simply a new chapter in our journey. As we say goodbye to BattleCom, we want to invite you to join us in this next leg of the journey with Game Voice!

I found Advert.dll on my system too.

I'd like to kick the F**Ks that are putting it out in the head. I tried deleting it and couldn't get access (sharing violation) until I close ALL my IE windows. So the piece of sh*t software loads up with your browser to watch what you do.

I also found another advert.dll under my soundblaster mediatalk directory, but this seems to be something a lot more innocent (and smaller).

llbm:

Tone has nothing to do with this. See Drex's post. You need to check your facts once in awhile, <Sheesh>. You could of easily emailed Tone or posted where he could see it.

And, the WB Spit Flight model has not changed

Hiya Ram1.  Wow. Just listen to what you're saying. That's kind of like HiTech and Pyro getting all the grief that the AGW folks, such as you, lay on them for  any problems (percieved or real) with WB's today - but they haven't been there for over two years.

If you read LLB's post it's obvious he is highly critical of RW and it's current practice with the "additional" programs. He did not attack Tone or anyone else specifically. But Tone and any of the original RW guys have to expect that any current problems with RW may be associated with them simply because RW is attibuted to them.

I've noted for myself that your the type who wears two hats.

Hmm, I don't recall giving HT or Pyro any grief over problems in WBs. You got any facts to back that one up? My main problem with AH is that its an evolutionary not revolutionary step, with not enough differentiation with WBs and no strategic land capture model.

My main beef with llbm post was that he didn't contact Tone directly, his issue could of easily been resolved. Tone is a good guy who does alot for WBs and the community and doesn't need to be dragged into something he is not a part of.

My concerns with Pyro and HT is that they play favoritism to certain players and are condesending to other players who question some of their decisions. They tend to be very closed minded on certain issues and I've seen no evidence of that changing with AH.

In WBs we have more player control then ever before between the CMs, Trainers, and many other contributors. Its much more a players game with more to come.

Yeah my opinions are biased, yeah I got some baggage, so if that means I wear two hats, so be it, your entitled to your opinion. Just make sure you got the facts straight before you form them.

Ram1, first you tell LLB that Tone has nothing to do with this and then you say LLb should have contacted Tone by email about it. Well, you're wrong. This is an "AH" community and in it are a number of people who have a major problem with one of the features provided with the AH product. A feature that is benign to people unless they happen to be PC savvy or have respectable members who speak up, as LLB did.  So it should be public.   LLB posted about a major problem with RW and his post was not a personal attack on Tone.  You definately are wrong on this. And you are certainly way out of bounds telling anyone here what they should do as regards to anything having to do with AH or HTC.

As for my opinion, yup, I'm certainly entilted to it. And you yours. My take from reading AGW for over a year is you're pretty hostile when it comes to AH and HTC. If the AGW's search feature worked worth a hill of beans I'ld look up specifics. But you're not fooling anyone who reads here or AGW in saying you've not given Pyro or HiTech grief over WB's.
Again, my opinion. You've stated yours which is quite the opposite of mine.

If you were at all concerned about this YOU could have emailed Tone to let him know that there was a stink being raised, by a number of subscribers to a major corporate licenser of  his developed product, so that he could see fit to speek for himself - if he felt the need..

Now, you're on the WB's staff correct? Your posting here in this manner, imo, can only be an embarrasing reflection on that community and the staff.  You may want to rethink posting here period, imo once again.

I am not on the Warbirds staff, whatever that is. I am a trainer and I manage the HA arena with Vert. That's it!

Westy, don't know where all the anger and defensiveness is from  but if that's what floats your boat, have at it.

BTW, who said you were the BBS police for AH on who can or cannot post here? Besides my post was to llbm not you. It was not about AH it was about getting facts before dragging someone's name up who had nothing to do with the problem.

You're not an employee but being an official trainer and operator of an arena? Well, that got "staff" written all over it to me.

Westy, don't know where all the anger and defensiveness is from  but if that's what floats your boat, have at it.

RAM1, there is not one itsy bitsy teeny bit of anger or defensiveness in my post - intended nor inflected in anyway shape or form. Perhaps the reason you see that is actually due to the color of your glasses?

BTW, who said you were the BBS police for AH on who can or cannot post here?

I never said you could not. I only remarked your continued doing so could be seen as an embarassment to WB's. IMO, of course

Besides my post was to llbm not you

Ahh. Well.  Should have taken it email, huh? Strange enough some guy, using your handle too way up above there,  recommended doing just that to someone else.

It was not about AH it was about getting facts before dragging someone's name up who had nothing to do with the problem

Well, what are the facts RAM1?  Seems we're going in circles here.  RW has now added in spyware and useless utilities. Fact.
Said RW program can now seriously degrade a persons pc performance as well as collect personal information about them. Fact.

But where do you see anyone at all accusing Tone in particular of perpetuating this?

WOW been working on my new HD for the last couple of dazzzzze and have been unable to get in here. As for Tone's involvement...when I left WB's he was still the owner operator of RW. I read somewhere(but forgot till my 2nd post) that Tone had sold the company to one of those companies that looks for small good ideas and exploits them to the hilt after they own them(An obvious fact after the latest bunch of DL crap we have been put through) I have met Tone at two or three WB's  CONs and like the guy. Hence the second post. I didnt know if he was still involved with RW or not as some companies like IEN keep the old founders on till they piss them off enough by f#$%ing up their beautiful flight Sim that they leave  ....or voice system for that matter.

Spit FM in WB's. Sorry Ram1 if we dont see eye to eye here but I must respectfully say that your full of S#*T on that one as I flew WB's for 4 years. I left WB's and came with my squad here and LOVE it. I recently had a wild boreing hair up my bellybutton and tried WB's again. I dont EVER remember the Spit flying like a FW190 in the SIM I left. I remember an overmodeled Spit that flew almost as good as I imagine a Pitt Special flying. For Crist Sakes a damn Me 109f out turns a Spit in your SIM! So give me a break on that one as I can feel and see the diffrence between night and day. As for Westy, he's a squadmate of mine that escaped AW and found a home with the MOL here in AH. You fly your SIM I'll fly mine. Lets keep it that way. I'll stay over here and you stay over there.

LLB OUT!!!!!!!!!!!

And here is  what Tone wrote back in December. I found this on AGW this am:
 http://agw.dogfighter.com/agw//Forum3/HTML/017255.html

It's not at all funny how he covered his fellow Warbirds friends yet completely failed to do likewise here and give us any notice what so ever.  "We" who have use his product as an integral part of our sim.

I've got Battlecom and Team Sound now if anyone is interested in testing out, and hopefully using, an alternative to RW.
