we need to all know about this as the off topic BBS's dont seem to carry any weight.
Tone I hope you read this as you are one of the only reasons I ever used RW. Gator be damned!! Im pastine below what I learned from my Squaddies and how to divest your self of it.
Sad that they would do this.....Gator is spyware....tracks all kinds of things that you do....The Quote from the GRC/spyware
newsgroup Earlier versions of RW don't have this problem
:}----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I found that Roger Wilco,
the video games voice chat app. that allows gamers
to communicate with each others hands free has decided to sell its soul to
the devil... (er, gator.com)
Anyway, it installs an exe file in your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory called
FSG.exe and makes it a system run command by adding a link to it in the
registry key
\\HKEY_LOCAL_USERS\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\ or
something like that, I'd have to look it up.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------And the
FIX.............------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Fortunatly,
Gator is installed via the FSG.exe downloader...so, if you
do want to install RW, all you have to do is use ZoneAlarm or another
outbound firewall to deny Internet access to FSG. Then, just End Task
the FSG program and delete the executable. Uncheck the FSG/Trickler box
under Startup in MSCONFIG to disable the registry entry.
It's still sneaky and underhanded of them to bundle this with RW, but at
least it's easy to disable and get rid of... Too bad that, since the
death of BattleCom, there aren't really any good alternatives to RW for
gamers...
Tone man....this has got to go! The DOD should know better than to try to pull this kinda toejam over on us.......
LLB OUT!!!!!!!!!
