lol look at these guys, im not saying they really did, but i amCERTAINLY looking forwardto whether it works out or not!

they have incorporated  so many of the ideas i have been clamoring for here in aces high.

I really think user submissions with corporate approval is the way to go, not totally closed game coding.

While i think their approach might be a little TOO drastic (flight models IMO should be left up to the base company, not end users) I REALLY REALLY support user artwork (3d models and skins etcera) but i dont think hitech will ever do that. With 6 employees hitech has made a great game in a short period of time, but withot using its best resource, within 2 years HTC will probably fall severely behind.

You can see an example of how open games work in the M$ sims.  Take a look in the file library of AvSim.  Thousands and thousands of files (even a few of mine   ).  I'd say about 15-20% are of higher quality in 3d models/fm/etc than the M$ default stuff and the rest are fodder.

AH would have to keep the FMs closed for obvious reasons, but user submitted 3d models/skins for approval would be nice

Interesting idea, but I don't agree with having to pay a monthly fee for that.  A one-time purchase would be more approiate.

Basically it's the same thing as AH, except the PLAYERS have to provide the servers and much of the game development.  This is more in line with boxed FPS games.  (which makes me wonder--how many home users have a computer and connection good enough to handle a 250 player server?)

They will be charging the same money as many online MMP games, and doing less work.  It's a good deal for them.

Yes, I tend to be a bit pessimistic when looking at business dealings.

To be totally fair, there is a concern you have not addressed...

I have used many of the add-on skins for planes in games like MSCFS 1 & 2, SDOE, etc. and they share a common dark side- frame rate hit. Yes, the planes can be beautiful, but you can also see a dramatic hit on frame rate if the artist doesn't know how to optimize the art, which most apparently don't.

I echo Zigrats post for the most part. Especially about player content as regards FM's and such.
I would like to add that I firmly believe that HTC does things with AH based on thier not-in-any-way insignificant experience in online gaming and thier intimate knowlege of their program. Where as Target Software may think they know what to do, having participated as players in online games,  but they have not created anything like this in the past.  So, we'll see.

It is a good example of someone actually putting thier money where thier mouth is for sure. I wish RAM, TOWD and several others would do likewise.

I'd like to edit my own skins, but I'm too lazy to do the rest...that's wasted time I could be using online!

And the hacks out there, hmmmm, seems like a hay day for them!

Wish Sick best of luck, this is a flight era no ones done right, hope his does it right!

Considering the equipment used in 1996 to run the 200+ servers of AW or WB, I would say that anyone with a current system and a cable connect should be fine.  It isn't as though they will actually have 200 persons on a private server anyway.  30-50 would be sweet and no problem(theoretically, because I think the FM is the easy part, the netware is the tricky thing).

I think HT could do some preventative stuff and release a skin pack from which a rotating 'feature skin' is selected. That way as users take an interest they can donate skins for their most popular ride and see it join the rotation. I have already seen a great deal of artistic talent here. Encapsulate that within a library and voila!

Yes, I agree that player add-ons can be SO NICE, look at some of these screenshots for MSCFS2 of player built add-ons

The RAFF P-40 was made by a New Zealand team and has even drawn attenteion from MS.

Nice! They are sweet.

P-40 my favorite ride.

The ONLY thing that looks bad on those models is the prop. So bad it almost looks out of place.

Would like to see a shot of it not turning.
