German WWII fighters on WGBH...
« on: January 29, 2002, 02:53:36 PM »
....

Tonight (01/29), WGBH is showing a documentary on TV regarding the german fighter aircraft.  Read description of documentary below for more info.  Live in Westport, MA on the East Coast and don't know what schedule is for rest of the country.  Haven't flown one online mile in AH and have done all my flying offline, but thought that the documentary would be of interest to the AH community.  Enjoy:

World War II: Battleforce

German Fighters
This is the fascinating story of the role of the fighter aircraft within the German Luftwaffe. This program provides detailed exploration of the development and operational use of such aircraft as the superb Messerschmitt BF109, one of the great fighters of the war, and the Focke-Wulf Fw190, an excellent fighter that first saw service in 1941. Also explored is what might have been if chaotic administration had not delayed the use of the ME262, the world's first jet fighter, beyond usefulness in combat.

Wasn't too bad.  IT was not much better than what one would see on the History Channel.

Too many clips of the wrong plane being shown while the hnarrateor talked about another.  For instance when the Heinkel 160 and ME-262 were being introduced to the show and the jet engine was being talked about they kept showing a prop radial engine along with factory shots  of Stuka's and 190's being made. As well as flight lines of Stuka's and JU-188's.

There was a lot of new footage I'd not seen . 190's chasing Hurries and Spits on the deck at Dieppe. The DO-335 in flight and several guncam selections with the ME-262 starring as the target as well as other film footage.

I give it a two handed shrug being so-so.
