San Francisco airport closes briefly

"Thousands of passengers were evacuated from San Francisco International Airport for 2 hours Wednesday morning after security guards detected explosives residue on the shoes of a man who disappeared into the crowd.

So let's see.. they HAD his shoes. They have "enhanced security" including the National Guard and extra cops.

And he still got clean away? He probably runs faster in socks across a slippery tile floor.

It's sizzle, not steak. Madison Avenue illusions of security.

...and it's killing the travel industry. A 2 hour shutdown at a UAL hub? Any idea how that echoes across the entire US through the UAL system?

They need to get stuff like this resolved... and fast...
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

A real confidence builder.  They should be totally embarassed.

Didn't the US just pass a bill requiring the government to take over staffing?  When does it take effect?

We really need the military to handle airport security, not low wage civilians, or federalized civilians. (IMHO)

(a federalized civilian is the same marginal knucklehead, but now he wears a monkey suit and you can't fire his bellybutton unless he commits child rape)

Checkpoint security at airports is a mind numbing thing to have to do day after day after day. Seems to me that the military is the only organization that has the wherewithal to provide fresh, motivated, trained people that can be regularly rotated on to something different.

We have to make it safe to fly, we have to do it right now, and we have to do it from now on. I just with we would do it the right way to begin with.

As I understand it, the people already working there are going to simply be "federalized".

USAF Security Forces should be out there learning people how to secure and Airport.  Wanna bet they aint?  It would only be logical, so I doubt it.  See, those guys mean buisness.  Anyone who's ever been on an Air Base can tell you about the "presence" of Security Forcs.  Anyone whose ever been "somewhere they hadn't oughta" on an airbase can also most likely tell you how quickly 10 or 15 people can magicly appear out of nowhere loaded for bear lol.

Frenchmen should be illegal ;)

Frenchmen should also be required to wear Jacques Cousteau flippers instead of shoes for those long walks through the airport :D :D :D

it's allready the case Gunthr ;) I'm allready illegal in my country ...

But wearing those Red Cousteau caps ... berk :)

Btw I strongly believe that if we make shoes wearing illegal we will an immediate decrease of this kind of incident :)

Why can't we use the obvious solution when we are facing one ? ;)

You know, that idea is just crazy enough to work! Good thinking, Staffo :) I wish we had more guys like you on our side - then maybe we wouldn't have all these problems!!!!!!

YEAH, and maybe frenchmen should stop wearing berets and tight pants. ;)

(The hidden sarcasm in my thread points out that its a bigoted generalization that all americans wear shoes, or pants for that matter)

Why stop at shoes, just make all clothing illegal.  Everybody go naked.   Hard to hide a weapon on your body with no clothes.  (Well there are a couple of places but it would be messy and not to mention painful).
