What happens on your FE does not happen on his, no 3d game like half life etc uses online sim type of FE. If you have 200ms, aim and hit infront of him.

No problems if you have ADSL or faster, find  server with bellow 100ms and you can aim right at them even if they are running side ways.

Had 50ms pings. Aside from the All-seeing eye, is there a way to see your ping in the game? It shows whenever a map is done, but can you bring it up yerself?

Also, it seems some people arre walking around - thus you cannot hear them. Only way I've done this is by ducking, or by tapping on the forward key. Neither is too good.

Lastly, what kinda mapping do you recommend? Am usied to usig the arrows for movement, butt then it gets hard to crawl and move left/right at the same time.

Walking was possible in 1.3, it's not anymore. If you wanna walk without being heard you have to duck (or crawl but that takes time).
You Speed run for short periods with the Shift Key.

My Mapping:

Mouse 1: Fire
Mouse 2: Secondary Fire (sniper rifle scope and MG barbete)
Middle Mouse button: Need to set it up

Foward: W
Backward: S
Strafe left/right: A and D
Duck: Q (should remap this to middle mouse)
Jump: Space (never use the thumb for anything else)
Panick Run: Shift (use shift + W)
Change weapons: Normal thing, push 1 for knife then click mouse and it changes.

Note, that grenades have a 5 second timer, when you see a grenade is thrown at you, if you have time, you can pick it up. Go to it, look at it, push E (use key) and then throw it away FAST.

You can time your own grenades like this, drop it on the gorund, pick it up, wait a seonc or two and throw it.

add these quote lines to your autoexec.bat in the dod folder

Quote
bind "PGUP" "ng_toggle"
alias ng_toggle "ng_1"
alias ng_1 "net_graph 1; d1; echo Net Graph Activated ; d0; alias ng_toggle ng_2"
alias ng_2 "net_graph 2; d1; echo Net Graph Set to 2 ; d0; alias ng_toggle ng_3"
alias ng_3 "net_graph 3; d1; echo Net Graph Set to 3 ; d0; alias ng_toggle ng_0"
alias ng_0 "net_graph 0; d1; echo Net Graph Deactivated ; d0; alias ng_toggle ng_1"
net_graph "0"
net_graphwidth "192"
net_scale "5"
net_graphpos "1"
net_graphsolid "1"

the in the console (tilde key) type "ng_toggle" you can then use your page up key to pull up and down a graph showing connection status

Quote
bind "KP_UPARROW" "fps"
alias fps "cl_showfps 1 ; bind KP_UPARROW fpsoff"
alias fpsoff "cl_showfps 0; bind KP_UPARROW fps"

in the console type "fps" then use up arrow to bring fps on and off

there are numerous "bind" commands that have the potential of allowing folks an unfair advantage

for instance one key could be set to goto granade, throw granade, go to bac primary weapon, fire primary weapon........

all with 1 push of the key......

or another key could  used to stand up, fire, go prone

or strafe left/right fire

or jump fire etc..........

IMHO these are cheats so please dont go "bind" happy :)

You guys and your hard way.

Or, if you want to avoid the above craziness, just open the console (~) and type net_graph 1 to show connection, and then net_graph 0 to hide it again.

Udie-

HL engine is based (loosely) upon Quake 1 not 2!!!!

hehe.

Valve was a bunch of former MS employees and preferred to work with Abrash's (sp?) work than the confusing and contradictory methods they saw appearing in Quake 2's code (John Carmack's own 3d engine).

They licensed Q1 and applied thier own upgrades to it to make HL.

As for hindsight, all the companies that licensed Q2's engine either dropped it soon after, produced fairly forgettable games or went out of business.

I myself would love to see DOD vamped onto the Q3 engine! Pity ID refuses to overextend itself into supporting the MOD communities. An understandable decision for such a small group but a shame nontheless.

U.S. grenades were fragmentation grenades, thus were more deadly than the German "potato masher", which was a concusion grenade.  That's why you hear of US soldiers having German grenades blow up right next to them and only thing they got injury wise was a busted ear drum and bloody nose.

Akak, the German stick grenade, which was the most common, was a fragmention grenade aswell, and it could be thrown further.

Yeah, but akak does have a point in that it wasn't nearly as powerful, so it could be used as an assault weapon - thrown and quickly followed up.

Somewhere I've read a quote from a US soldier about the different grenades where he says something to the effect of the above, and then something along the lines of 'WE ducked when we threw our grenades."

My thoughts +)

The MG is too easily used while standing .  Either that or there are alotta MG cheats out there.

MOH could learn alot from DoD as far as gameplay goes, but there are 'push' maps appearing for MOH already.  (Maps with multiple objectives 'pushing' the enemy back)
