Udie.. shot you an e-mail through UBB.  If that's not a current e-mail addy... send me an e-mail at dstaines@teleport.com

Rogwar...  I am a big fan of the Clancy Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear series.  They really are a different type of game.

Rogue spear relies more on timing and planning.  OFP is more of a make it up as you go kinda game.  The AI in both games pretty much sucks, but in totally different ways.

The main thing I like about OFP is the aiming system.  It seems a tad more real feeling to me.  Range matters and targets aren't as distinguishable.  But that really is quite subtle.

OFP has a downloadable demo.  I'm not sure if RS does or not.  Download em and try em... oppinions vary so much on these two that its hard to get a real helpful answer.

It is funny how two games can be so similar yet be so different. Equally interesting is how most people clearly prefer one over the other with about a 50% split.

I have Ghost Recon, but it isn't even on my hard drive any more. I generally have no interest in fps games of the quake genre, and Ghost Recon leans more that way. Confined area with limited choices. It looks and sounds cool, but it doesn't look and feel as real as OFP.

I like the freedom of actions possible in OFP. I can take weapons and other items of interest from dead people and use just about any strategy I want. No restrictions on where I can go or what I can do. Some of the missions I have downloaded are unbelievable in terms of how far you can take the scripting. The Siberian Fox James Bond style mission was just beautiful to watch complete with James Bond music. There are some missions that are as intense as a D-Day invasion: one actually is an uphill beach assault under heavy enemy fire. There don't seem to be any limits to what can be done with this game if people take the time to script good missions.

I wish OFP would add even more things:
Hand-to-hand combat with fists/feet, knives/bayonets, or anything else you can pick up.
Improved vehicle/aircraft modeling.
The ability to jump, dive, roll, etc.
Most of all, they need to get the tools released to the modders so we can have WWII/Korea/Vietnam. Though I am sure some will make urban police/Max Payne style worlds and who knows what else with the kind of creative talent that is out there. I can even imagine WWI, Civil War, and Revolutionary War mods (though you really need swords, bayonets, and horses to do those right).

The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades

And Creamo... I have N2002 sitting here too... still unopened in the box.

Dude, load it. I put it in before raceday, Darrel Waltrip gives you the whole track layout and how to run it. It's amazing to see the strat pre-race. Plus it gives you a good idea on how they run.

The graphic and sound update is well worth it, but the "ideal race line" graphic has just made it fun to try and do well in that hardass sim all-a-sudden.

Sound wise, go external view, it just roars. Im looking to find a mod or how to make the incar sound the same. It models a thin tin reverb, which I don't like. try it. It kicks ass.

Now where's Wil?

As StreakEagle said, OFP is all about he great outdoors. I think you get a good feel for the differences in gameplay by checking out the Demos. OFP has a demo with a pretty good firefight, And GR has a limited area (hostage rescue?) I don't really remember, because I couldn't get over the fact that I had to go inside. I never made it into the castle due to lack of interest (for god's sake there was a castle. What's next dragons?). I wanted to like GR, but it just wasn't in the cards. I ended up buying OFP and have no regrets.

My favorite part of OFP is how it makes you feel pretty damn smart sometimes. There's a mission where you are in a full retreat, cut off from everyone. Did anyone else steal a tractor and drive it to the extraction point?

OFP Patch 1.45 had a chopper landing bug.  Codemasters will release Patch 1.46 today.  Unfortunately, Patch 1.45 was in compatible with Satchel's outstanding sound pack.  Somebody is working on a fix for this too.

My OFP Review:  OFP rocks!!!!

BTW, you NASCAR 2002 owners need to join GROWL NASCAR, an online air combat sim player's racing league.  We have a dedicated T-1 Server and 20 some-odd members.   We are currently in Season Two and racing at Las Vegas Wed. Nite  with NASCAR 4.   We will make the switch to NASCAR 2002 for our Atlanta race next week.

And for any Formula One fans out there, we also have a Grand Prix Legends league which just finished Season Four.  We begin Season Five in two weeks.

1.46 is awesome.  It really changes some things for the better from both enemy and friendly AI and some other things.

There's a minor problem though... many servers are crashing when you try to take weapons from the cargo area of a vehicle.

There should be another patch out soon.

I didn't ever install 1.45, I waited for 1.46 and got the Satchel's Sound Pack 1.45/1.46 patch...

This game just keeps getting better.

The helos feel better now instead of having a hair trigger collective that made it very difficult to land and maneuver and with Satchel's Sound Pack, it sure is fun using the Cobra's cannon. Now if they would just fix it to be a "20mm" cannon instead of a "30mm" cannon.

My dad and I have a blast with multiplayer co-op.
