To All The People Going Crazy Waiting For 1.09.......
« on: March 04, 2002, 05:33:20 PM »
...an encouraging observation:  HiTech has been on a lot recently, which in this case probably means he's been testing the new aircraft flight models, using existing "airframes".

Last year, I remember he warned us to watch out for a very fast P-51 packing quite a punch.  Of course, it was the about-to-be-released Me-262.

So, while there are no guarentees that 1.09's release is imminent, it does mean progress has been made to the point where...well who knows.

Also, I heard HT say there might be a "surprise" plane in 1.09.  My guess is the Stuka.

Since this is probably not comforting enough, let's get 1.09 off our minds by arguing about what planes should be in 1.10!  Since 1.09 will have a Battle of Britain plane set, I'd hope for an early Pacific plane set next.  How about:  P-40b and/or e, Ki-43 Oscar, F4F-3 and/or -4 Wildcat, A6M2 and/or M3 Zero, P-38F, B-25c and P-39D.  And don't forget the SBD Dauntless and D3A2 Val dive-bombers and the B5N2 Kate torpedo bomber.

Also, what about GVs?  Some don't care at all for them, but I'd like to see the T-34/76, Sherman, and something to use GV perks on.  Maybe the Tiger I or Panther?

Speaking of GVs, how hard would it be to offer a selection of camoflage patterns?  Each GV could have three:  winter, summer, and desert.  Martha Stewart, are you listening?

I'd rather have a Pershing tank than a Tiger I or King Tiger.

I'd like to see a Korean theatre. Gimme some F86's and Mig 15's to mix it up in.

Easy Eight Sherman/76mm, t-34/85 are quite equal to PzKw-IVh.
Pershing and Tiger are good match too.
Panther is über, so is Königstiger...maybe JS-III or SU-100 against those.

Well, given HiTech's amazingly fast response, so much for my theories.  Unless it's part of a disinformation campaign!  Of course, if HT has time to fly, then maybe 1.09 is almost finished!

Anyway, I'd still like to hear what others are interested in flying and driving...I'm surprised to hear right away that people want Korean War era stuff.  I'd be more interested in early WW2 aircraft: Dewoitine D.520, Polikarpov I-16, Heinkel He-111, Brewster Buffalo, Mig-3, S.M. 79, Ju-52, A-20 Boston/Havoc, and Wellington.  Also, two important planes:  the B-24 and Ki-84.  And the already much discussed Me-163 Komet.

I'd much rather see a representative 1944 Spitfire before a Ki84 (although I'd like to see the Ki84 also).  Something along the lines of the Mk IX LF, with our current Mk IX having the options for rockets and .50 calibers disabled and being representative of the 1942 IX, which was like the very first one that came out.

I'd also like to see the Mk XIV, either as a cheap perk or free.  I'd lean towards free for the introduction, seeing as the climb rate and top speed are about par with the 109G10, which is free, although granted it does turn better.

The Japanese planeset could use some filling too, the Ki84 would be a big step towards that (and then they can put in all the cool early war Japanese stuff with the early USN/USAAF stuff and we can have a REAL party :D).

I'd also much rather see all the issues with the Panzer IV and M8 worked out (one way or another) before we introduce more tanks.

The camo issue comes up from time to time.  As an ex- AirWarrior I miss the ability to change the terrain and plane camos to match.  It seems to me this ability could be acheived easily, once the color schemes (art work) were complete.  When entering the main arena one could simply select "Summer - Winter - Desert".  All planes and GV's would be camo'ed accordingly.  This would be very cool.  Obviously I could be looking at winter terrain with another player looking at the very same terrain but seeing desert instead.

If i were a betting man, i'd lay money down that 1.09 is a done deal, with the exception of final QA before it goes public.

P.S. good to see HT and crew in arena more, "all work+no play makes Jack a dull boy"
