 Two major differences as I see it:
 1. There is no superpower supporting them.
 2. The surveilance/tracking equipment we have now is way more advanced then what soviets had 20 years ago. I bet that that's where a lot of research will go in the future too.

There is only one way to end quick....

1. Feed the poeple fat (fat poeple do not like to fight)

I mean, give them some civilisation advances like food, tv and radio and some cars and they are pleased....

Is not?

Maybe I play to much civilisation 3 the last weeks.... :D

But its really so, give the poeple some things to loose and they will think twice before go to war....
