Moose,
As insightful as your post was ... and yes there was some insight there ... it was actually off topic (or sure seemed that way to me).
"i've noticed a lot of the new AWers commin in and putting "UBB SUCKS PURPLE MONKEY BALLS" or "UBB SUCKS ARSE" and things like that. my question is...if it sucks that bad...why read and post?"
Then again, the author (Pimpjoe) does seem confused as to the intent of Rotor's sig.
I put my best foot forth to explain that Rotor was merely commenting that NNTP was, in his opinion (and shared by many), a better way to do things. Then Urchin stepped in and asked a legitimate question and Seeker and I expounded on the technical merits of NNTP.
Even after Gunhog stumbled in without bothering to go past the initial post and decided to hoorah Pimpjoe, things kind of stabilized and got back to a rather pleasant discussion over the technical subject.
Then your post of insight.
Followed by polite applause by Westy and then taken as an opprotunity for a jab from Mako which made little sense.
Ok, fine.
I'd been trying to show Westy that he was being pretty one-sided in his point of view and took an opprotunity myself to merely point at the direction the thread was taking and who was taking it there but he was too blinded by his desire to chastise and lecture me.
I took it badly and things went pretty much south from there.
Westy's determination to use Goggle to find BigWeek posts to prove his assumptions of some sort of complicity between Rotor, myself and others based on a mysterious email he claimed to have recieved(especially after having said earlier that it would be rude of him to post the nntp addy since he no longer was a participant of that ng - his own decision) was at BEST, very poor form and certainly didn't help things.
That seems to be the entire thread in a nutshell (plus some inferences to other threads within).
So don't take offense at my not wanting to congratulate you for a job well done. Everything has it's place ... and time even. And although it probably would have happened anyway, given the influences that Westy now falls under (and I for that matter), this thread looks as if it's been a significant factor on putting the deathnail in an online friendship that I had cherished for years. I'm still torn over whether it's for the best or not (I've never seen this side of Westy). If I come to the conclusion that it was for the best, THEN I'll thank you.
