Performance drop since 1.09.
« on: March 14, 2002, 11:34:21 PM »
Since I installed 1.9 my FPS in MA has dropped by 20-40 fps, and goes down to 18 or less around many other planes. It is unplayable.

I have GF3, 384mb, P3 1ghz, DX8.1, 21.83 nvidia drivers.

Anyone else suffering from something similar?

thanks

lost about 20-25fps in the MA as well.  maybe it's from the new vox.

I'd check amd make sure you've the latest drivers of course AND that your using a Directx Ver 8.1 or better. Had a squadie that was having frame freezes whenever he keyed up his mic. He got the latest Directx 8.1 ver and all is well now.

P.S. You can prob also change how your CPU deals w/sound under Dx8.1, ie change the priority thing.

Other ideas..turn some Vid card features off perhaps...mess w/resolution... make sure your HD is defragged...IRQ conflicts blablabla... etc.

Of course, I only see what he posts here and what he does in the MA.  I know virtually nothing about the man.  I think its important for people to realize that we don't really know squat about each other.... definately not enough to use words like "hate".

Frame rates went from 55-70 to 20-40. There were also lots of freezes and warps _ some of which I attribute to the 430+ people online.
In past versions my frame rates have dropped and then crept back up as patches were added. I'm hoping squeakin' Betty and her constant "Airbase under attack" is chewing up some FR.
Can someone find the bunker she is sheltered in, and bomb it?

Later on during the night I was able to use the vox OK without any stuttering or sound cutting in and out.  It seemed when I turned up the Effects option in the voice setup, the stuttering and sound loss went away.

I too have lost 30 to 40 FPS since 1.09.  My FR now around 25-30 until get in smoke or around other planes  then drops to 18-20.  sometimes it takes a hit and drops to 5 (freeze time).  My vid card is nividia 400 mx  64 meg  and I have 256 ram.

Wizer:

Very odd,..I have an ATI Radeon 8500.  I see no difference at all in frame rate.  Still getting about 70 or so at 1280x1024x32 resolution.

Maybe delete the video7.cfg file and reset the video parameters from scratch.  I have palletized textures off and mip mapping enabled.

Just a thought.

Baine,
I don't know if squeakin Betty eats much FR but you can shut her up by deleting/renaming warning and/or air raid in your sounds folder.

Thanks, blissfull silence once again.:D
Dl'd dx 8.1, but didn't get any change, frame rate still 40ish with big drops in massive furballs.:(
I'm hoping things will improve. If not, at least I now have an excuse to upgrade the video card.

Floss has posted that running AH voice *and* RW drops FPS considerably.

Any of you guys running both apps side by side?

Not me, just AH voice. I was religious in using it when it was in beta also, and that caused no fr problem whatsoever.
My system

256 mb ram
Voodoo 3 16mb

Not quite, Seeker.  What I said was that if you run the separate version of AHVoice, as you used to have to before the last update, as well as the integrated one, it will cause problems.  I made the mistake of opening AHVoice before logging into AH and was receiving every word anybody said twice - really weird sounding!  I was also experiencing extremely low frame-rates, as low as about 6 FPS when planes were attacking my Osty.... the fact I managed to get a kill while looking at a slide show was nothing short of miraculous!  :p  Anyway, once I realised that AHVoice no longer needed to be opened separately I closed it down, and my problems disappeared immediately!    Frame-rates returned to normal, and I no longer heard people saying "HelloHellocancanyouyouhearhea rmeme"  :)

I was using RW in the scenario yesterday without any problems, and could have used AHVoice (on the Range/Room channel) at the same time too, but didn't due to the warning we had received not to.  :D
