LOL, you guys are funny with your "LW crapping their pants" posts.

Lets see how much the dedicated jug, f4u-1d, p-51, etc. drivers enjoy having the 14 around.

We all will be crapping our pants.

(The following is typed under the assumption that this is not a hoax and the Spitfire XIV is going to be added like the P-47D-30 and P-47D-25 were, in version patches not in a new version)

I hope that the 14 is not too expensive.  If it costs 60-70 points I will only be able to lose 2 per month, when the time/performance comparable aircraft like the Bf109G-10, Fw190D-9, La-7 and P-51D can all be flown and lost for free, as many times as you want.  Contrary to what many on this board think, the vast majority of AH players, either through low play time per month or lack of skill, cannot simply fly as many Tempest priced aircraft as they want and infact take multiple sorties to earn the points for an F4U-1C.  I think the goal should be to control the Spitfire XIV, but not eliminate it.  I never see Tempests, F4U-4s, Ta152s, Ar234s or even Me262s nowadays.  When we look at how often those aircraft get used, it is something like 500 times per month on average.  The Spitfire MkXIV entered service on Jan. 2, 1944.  Earlier than any of the other 4 fighters I mentioned in this thread, more than 9 months before the Fw190D-9.

The Spitfire XIV will already be operating under the handicap of being gangbanged wherever it appears, the icon ensures that, while lacking the required speed to escape, many fighters being faster than it as AH combat altitudes.

If it does cost 60-70 perk points, well, there's always the CT.

Apache,

Did it have a different graphic, or was it just using a Spit IX graphic?

If it did have a different graphic, was it a 1944 "razorback" Spitfire XIV, or a 1945 "bubble" canopy" Spitfire XIV?

I'm hoping for the 1944 version.

If this is not a troll (still not sure about it) the so called SPIT14 could have been the 'surprise plane' mentioned by HTC officials before 1.09 release which (as I said in one post after the release) due some problems either FM or art didn't quite make it into the 1.09 release... So Im not saying anything... Its just a thought... ;)

I'll go look at for the post if you want me too but it's where Pyro posted "where did you get the idea that a surprise plane was comming in 1.09?"

FYI, the P47-D25 came in one version but it wasn't turned on until one of the following patches.. or wasn't finished... then it still caused CTDs so it was disabled until the next patch.

So it's quite possible the Spit14 is in, just not active.

Ok film checked out.  This is for real, complete with 5 blade prop, looks just like a spit9 otherwise.  And its hitech flying it.  Cause apache shot him down.  WTG Apache.

So next question is when, next patch??

Gosh Karnak, I don't know much about the spit variants. It looked like spit9 graphics to me. When I first saw the icon, I thought I was seeing things because it was behind me and blinked out quickly. I let the thought pass but then a squaddie asked if anyone had seen a spit14 icon? When I heard that, I turned to where I saw the icon disappear.

The screen shot you see is the spit coming back at me after I had turned. He zoomed right past me like a bat outta hell. I turned and chased him. (Note: I was in a spitV). The spit14 engaged a friendly. I engaqed shortly after. I knew by then it was Hitech. He had killed Tumor and Tumor was yellin' at him about not being fair, lol. That was the direction Hitech was coming from in the screen shot.

Hitech even said on channel 1 after I got him, "First 14 kill", so I don't think he's hiding it. :)

Gremlin might help better on the spit ID when he see's the film.

What I find interesting about this screenshot is the name of the person broadcasting in AHV, That same person once said "All you guys who like AH voice are the same people who's mamma's made the other kids play with em. Get a life." I find it odd that someone who would appear to feel that negative about AHv would actually use it. Not to detract from the topic of this post or anything, just thought I'd bring it up.

spitfire IVX was very common in the skies and as such i dont think it should be perked at all.

Dora isnt perked
P51D isnt perked
NikJ isnt perked
F6F isnt perked

all late war fighters and around at the same time, some of these were produced in lesser quantity also.

if the arena gets flooded with them like the F4Uc was then it should be perked in a similar manner to the F4uc but not before.

I think its about time the RAF ot a later war model that is available to fly quite freely until overuse makes it damage enjoyment in the MA.

And that doesnt mean perking it after the first week or two its introduced either as we will ALL try it out for a while.
Im not really a flyer of RAF stuff but i sure appreciate the fact that they have been flying a 1943 fighter as their mainstay ride for far too long.
So the spit 14 is a fantastic plane? better that the p51d or dora or nikj or whatever? well maybe it SHOULD be the ride of choice for a while.

I look forward to it :D
