I'm willing to wager that it WILL be perked--note it has a "spit14" ICON and not just "spit".  I also suspect it'll be a moderately priced perk (between Chog and 152).   With regards to perking/unperking, I trust HTC to make the right decision.

Finally, who want's to bet that this was the "surprise" plane that Pyro mentioned and it just didn't quite make it out in time for 1.09??

Yes AcId, but Lazs is using ahvoice to broadcast over the squad comms... not channel/range.

Where did the "secret plane" appellation come from? We're pretty much always working on planes but we just never announce them until they're completed. Otherwise we'd just be dishing out disappointment anytime something could not be completed in time and had to be pushed back.

(Sigh) guess its time to remind you guys that "Real men fly Radials, Nancy Boys fly inlines"...and in beta we used to call them "Barbie-fires" :D

Just say NO to the Spitfire!

(Incidently, the F4U-1C was perked because it exceeded 20% of the planes flown in MA, bet the Sissyfire exceeds that now!)

It wasn't perked because of how many were being flown, it was perked because of the lopsided kill statistics ;) Spitfire has yet to kill twice as many aicraft as the runner up the way the Hog-C regularly did before it was perked.

I think the 14 would be a great addition.  It will be interesting to see what the perk cost is.  Especially compared to the F4U-4, which again is still overpriced IMO.

“Drop the price of the 152 and the F4U-4!” ;)

I wouldn't mind seeing Pyro's exact words. I don't doubt your memory, just what he said and how you interpret it may be different from how I may interpret it ;)

Having followed the "perk the C-Hog" battle from beginning to end, the kill statistics were and recently have been brought up repeatedly as the key justification. The recent post illustrated how the Spitfire may be a consistent leader in air to air, but has always been relatively close in stats to two or more aircraft, whereas the C-Hog dominated the arena dramatically in air to air by a factor of 2 and was also used extensively and effectively as an air to ground plane. The fact that the Spit is generally an inferior ground attack plane yet is seeing heavy use reflects the shift in the MA away from strat to furballing in recent cycles.

Personally, I saw no reason to perk the C-Hog and certainly no reason to perk the Spit IX or Spit V. If you don't like getting shot down by Spitfires, learn to fly something they can't touch like an awesome e-fighter (Bf109G-10?), a solid turn fighter (A6M5), or the dweebiest unperked plane of all (N1K2). I wonder if the C-Hog were unperked if everyone would start flying it again? Or was it just a fad that has now been solidly broken?

Those are his exact words, and clicking on the quote will take you to the message.

umm, sorry you misunderstood... exact words about why the C-hog was perked ;) Ripsnort and I were discussing this ;)

I found Pryro's words, and they support my claim for why the C-Hog was perked: kill stats.

Perks are a way to balance the arena, not so much a means of classifying planes. How many were produced or what its combat record was is not relevant. Some planes intended to be perks may not need to be while others that weren't intended to be may end up getting perked. Right now, the F4U-1C is accounting for about 20% of all kills in the arena. I don't want to push the score values any further so perking it is about the only option left. I don't really like the idea of making a carrier plane unavailable from the carrier.
