I disagree with you, streakeagle. The K series had some improvements in relation to G10.  K4, K6 and K14(only 2 saw in action) were very better planes.

Having been on that side of the fence I agree with Carl.

What you don't get is that while it's a hobby to you, it's a livelyhood to others.  Stupid posts like that never die, and only tend to get people upset when they find out they are not true. Instead of talking about productive topics, time is wasted setting the record straight.

The AH community is somewhat different than the sim community at large; by definition we are all online players. Most of us "get it". But not all sim players play online, or check a BBS multiple times a day for new info/whatever.

streakeagle, imagine a 109 a bit faster than G10 and with better control at hi speeds than G10, do you find that negligible?

Mandoble, every source I have ever seen for a K4 quotes a top speed of 452 mph, which is exactly the speed of our G10.

Do you have something I haven't seen before?

Vermillion,

In the altitude where the chart says 452 mph AH's G-10 does about 440 mph according to the speed gauge.

From http://www.spitfiresociety.demon.co.uk/whatmark.htm

Quote
In classic Spitfire tradition, the new engine, a Griffon 61 (and later Griffon 65), was mated to an available airframe- in this case a Mk VIII. To absorb the power generated, a 5-bladed airscrew was introduced. Some of the Mk XIV were produced with a cut-down rear fuselage and "teardrop" canopy for increased visibility. 957 were produced.

and from http://www.deltaweb.co.uk/spitfire/rtn_frnc.htm

Quote
In Europe, the Mk XIV entered service with No 610 Squadron early in the year. Attacks on the enemy's road and rail communications were stepped up in preparation for the invasion of Normandy, and although the Germans knew an invasion was imminent, the wide dispersal of targets throughout the Channel area and inland gave no clue as to where it would be mounted.

I hope this is of some help.

Yeager,

So, you'd support the A7M2 Reppu "Sam" being added to AH?

Even if this is the case Verm (I doubt it), a more controlable at hi speeds 109 would be very wellcomen.

If the G10 in AH isn't doing 452 its broken and we need to lobby Pyro to fix it ASAP.  If I can remember, I'll check it when I get home.

Mandoble, my reply wasn't a challenge, just an honest question.

I do however think (and its admittedly just an opinon, no facts available) that your expecting more out of the control differences than you would actually see in AH.  I just don't see how different control tabs, would drastically effect high speed handling.

Plus, most of  the late model G10's (which is what we have) were basically factory refits of old aircraft up to K4 standards.  Pyro has said in a few of these G10 vs K4 threads exactly that.  Thats why our G10 outperforms some of the data you will find in some references, because it is one of the aircraft that was rebuilt to the K4 standards. ie Essentially it IS a K4.  True there are minor differences, in regards to engineering, such as the tail wheel.  But in regards to a flight model within AH, I honestly don't think your going to see any difference.

How much did those flettner-tabs help rolls in higher speeds?

No idea at all, but I suppose that if they were there, it was for some good reason.
