Your right, sound does not have much to do with performance! but man, it has something to do with the feel and appeal of the car.
You know, you get in, turn the key, the old beast rumbles to life, you let it warm up a bit, then tap the throttle and the car jerks to the right from the torque. You have to crank the radio to hear it over the engine!
It's also sitting in the car you rebuilt! That feels good.
Everything about most new cars is sanitary, and mostly boring. No doubt your BMW is a better car, lol but it just does not have the same personality, if any really.

Oh and I live in Fremont, CA about 20 minutes north of San Jose, and work in Mountain view.
