How about some offline AI quick combat (1 vs 1) or such??
Natedog and ronnie and yankee and co.  are lacking in ACM's.

I use the offline crew (Yankee seems to take the worst of it, and I still don't know why) to work on deflection gunning, SA, and a few other things.  I've often thought how slick it would be if there was a more "challenging" offline AI, ala HT's last little venture (WarBirds; I quit about the same time he did) but given the size of the shop HTC is running I'd rather they put their efforts into the main areas of the game.

Last time I counted this whole thing is run by seven people.  In my office it takes seven developers to find a clue; that doesn't count the other twenty or so people they think should be waiting on them and .

Things I'd like to see in Offline:

1) AI crashes when wings come off...
2) AI that flies in a pattern other than a circle.
3) Groud vehicles driving about.

Those seem like they should not be too hard.  This one would be harder:

4) Enemy AI that "dogfights" by always turning towards you.  We could name him "HOAI"

You're still young.  I have a 24" long, 1.5" diameter oak dowel at my desk (My semi-official LART; I only bring the clue-by-4 in when I have to) I use on people who say things like that.  I thought those days were over when I quit being a code monkey.  Not a chance.

Ok, ok, maybe I should have put quotes around "seem". ;-)  You would think a programmer with 15+ years of experiences would know better. *blush*

Now that I think about it, the reason that the planes don't crash is that while my client is able to damage them, it would require another client to provide the updates as to what the effects of that damage would be.   Soooooo, obviously making them crash would require faking an external client to provide that input.

Making 'em crash seems a lot harder when put that way.

How about adding a few B17's that fly at 15K or so in a very large circle that passes over the field?

Heheh..
Nuthin says the code has to be developed by HTC.  I know of
a certain exticnt on line WW2 Air War program just sittin on
the shelf.
The one thing that was impressive, if not unparralelled, was
thier offline mission editior (mission builder) and AI banditios.
I'll chip in 20 bucks.  Just transplant the superior graphics,
gunnery ,models etc.  of AH into the framework?
(I hope that doesnt get me the big dowel rod)

Can it be done???
What an idea

:D

you dont seem to get it. Hitech has better things to do. He has already written the best MMPOG out there...twice actually.

I would like to see a B-17 or 2 in the pattern.

Just swap 1 or 2 B-17s for one or two of the mustangs.

LOL....if I want to play off-line,I'll fire up a different sim.

I'd much rather HTC spent their efforts improving AH and removing bugs, then spending it on adding offline combat.:)

I can tell you....AI is not a lot of help if you want to learn how to score against humans. I used to play Warbirds offline, and thought it was pretty tough on 'Ace' level. Then I started playing AH against other people, and it was a totally different experience. If you want to have a decent AI you need to make a whole new game and this is not the issue here. Like many others, I would like the drones to behave like manned planes when hit...that is to crash when they lack wings and such. Maybe more of them also, some going straight, some turning with various radii and various speeds  so we can perfect our lead. This can be easily programmed.

How would u have done in WB without any combat sim
experience at all.  Maybe you would have cancelled your
perscription. Lets hear it from the pilots who spend
(i dont know how many) hours in a flight simulator before they
scream off in their f15 to kill REAL nme in REAL air combat.
I agree, the aces in AI arent any match for the infinite
randomeness of humans, but as far as getting used to the
flight models, and finding ways to defeat different aircraft,
with different aircraft, offline AI is far better than waiting for
a particular matchup, and trying a particular set of manuevers,
to see how they work in that particular situation. (I dont  have
the the time.  I wish i did.)

  Kbman
just making a suggestion, if HTC isnt in the business of
AI, now or ever in the future, thats fine.  But hitech
replied to this post himself and didnt seem to lay it out quite
so harshly.  I took it as "jeez..it would be nice but, HTC
hasnt the resources."
Perhaps HTC can purchase this? Air Warrior 2 and 3 had an
excellent mission builder, what do they need it for now?
Maybe they'll give the module away, maybe its not possible
to fuse them, maybe nobody is interested in this except me,
maybe a AH downlaod w a mission builder and a 100 or so
quick missions is a heck of a marketing strategy for
online AH. ( i own at least 8 ww2 combat flight sims) and
have hungered for real human competition for all of them.
Ah is the best, just dont have enuff time to fill my needs
online.

The one thing I would like is to be able to set the type of aircraft the drones are.

Drone GVs driving in a circle under the drones would be nice too.  Name them after the support guy and the upcoming sales person.
