Its the new trend.
Blame anything you can find for the consequences of your poor parenting. High tech companies are easy target cause they are so.. advanced and stuff.

I think the poor boy just woke up one day and realized he looked just like his mother.

I find it strange that Sony is held responsible for the actions of someone with a diagnosed mental illness.

What does the mother hope to obtain?  Warning stickers on Everquest?  Maybe something like "WARNING! THIS GAME IS INCREADIBLY ADDICTIVE!".  That should do the trick.  I'd recomend "WARNING! THIS GAME MAY MAKE YOU WANT TO FLIP OUT AND CHOP OFF HEADS CAUSE ITS SO SWEET!"

Seems everyone is out to blame video games for the actions of teenagers.  If anything, they MAY be partly to blame for the inactivity of teens... but most kids or young adults seem to be truly motivated to action by much more real problems.

Seeing as how some people get so worked up about the smallest things in AH, I'm surprised nobody has commited suicide from losing an ME-262.

I think her son had plenty of other issues outside of Everquest. It may have played a role in pushing him over the edge, but so what? You could say that about anything in your life.

Conversation on why her son quit his job to play Everquest all day long.
« Reply #4 on: April 02, 2002, 03:54:18 PM »
Mom:
Son why did you quit?

Son:
Mom they were making fun of me constantly e-mailing all my "guild" buddies and always taking off work to go play the game on my vacation time.

Mom:
What can Dad and I do to help you out?

Son:
Can you guys pay my bills and send me money for food so I can stay at home and get to the next level with my best character?

Mom:
Sure son I will just tell your Dad that you are having a hard time finding a job that will allow you to play Everquest all day while you work.

Son:
Thanks Mom you are the greatest. When I shoot myself in a few months would you sue Sony for making me this way?

Mom:
No problem son I will do it gladly!

Sony $$$$'s

the labels are just a ploy

Sony should then counter sue the 21 year old dweeb's parents for being such poor parents & raising such a twit

"Anorexic Sex Drive?" "Poor Social Skills?" "12 hours a day online?" You guys should show more sensitivity to Ripsnort's parents in their time of grief.

I used to play Everquest till about 4 months ago. It's a fun game, I really liked grouping with those nice dark elven Females. I really liked it when they wore those pants that show their prettythanges. :D  For those of you who don't know, whenever you start Everquest their is the BIG disclaimer that pops up on the screen, and you must hit accept every time to start the game. Last time I read it, it did give warnings that after every hour of play a person should take a 10-15 min break. Anyway, I will admit Everquest is addictive but I always made sure  it didn't rule my life. IMHO, I'm pretty sure the poor kid had alot of problems and that the mother is just using EQ as an excuse to get money.

I played everquest for about a year, my best budy and I started at the same time and played all the time. Part of it was he had to move away, so this was a way for us to hang out! lol

I grew disgusted with the lack of customer service, the level of imaturaty and mostly how boring the high level game is, I asked myself, was a game that I needed a book to read on my desk really fun? When the answer cam back no, I quit.

I have seen crazy stuff though, My girlfriends sister more or less left her husband over the game! She is now living with an 18 year old she met in game!

I know of cases of real life stalkers harasing people in and out of game.  People take it so seriusly! The rants we see here are not even close to what Sony/Verant has to deal with!

Real life friendships breaking up over stuff in game! I saw it happen! It almost happend to me and my friend! 22 years we have been friends and it all almost ended because of a everquest dispute! lol another reason I stepped back and decided to move on!  Crazy

oh and the woman is a crack pot just looking for cash, damn lawyers :(

About a year ago I worked with a guy who was into Everquest bigtime......so........
Nights that we worked together we spent hours talking about our online games..AH for me, Everquest for him.  He did really get into it, which surprised me.  The guy was 47 y/o at the time, and he was like a teenager about the game.  He got pissed that his 18 y/o stepson chose a different type character than him (whatever the lizard looking dorks are) and shot up in levels fater than he could.
I sat in on a couple sessions with him on his second computer (which was pretty neat, as they were 3 feet apart and you got two views of the area you were in at the time), but said no more when I accidentally hit one of his "hot keys" and cast a spell on a guard and got smashed to bits for it.  :p
Evercrack......what a name..........ROFL!:D
