For the record, you guys did reintroduce hostilities to Chechnya at the time. While there are those in the US who dissagreed with the Russian response (In fact some policy people I spoke with at the time, not to mention Academics believed that it was not Islamic sepratists, but rather the KGB who blew up the apartments in Moscow

) I was never one of them. The fact is, Russia responded as the United States has. They targeted those responsible for the actions, and began a campaign against them. The major difference I can see is scale. Larger attack on the WTC=larger response. The situations are not that different in my eyes. Hopefully the reports of Human Rights abuses at the hands of US soldiers in Afganistan will be significantly reduced compared to what has come out of Chechnya.
