no, you see more spits than P-51s because there are 4 models that carry the SPIT icon, one of which is usually the top killer, and another that is in the top 5. You can also instantly tell the difference between a D pony and a B pony, but usually you have to get a little closer to the Spits to pick out the color schemes.
As for only experts flying the P-51... How come it's got basically the same K/D ratio as the Spitfires which are flown by newbies? So there have to be lots of newbies that die in the Runstang to make up for the sparkling K/D that aces in the Pony must have. That and last tour, the P-51D accounted for 2 of my 10 Spitfire Mk I kills.
