PERK The Ostwind
« on: April 05, 2002, 07:50:38 PM »
Now before you get wound up, a simple YES or NO will work.  I don't need a re-re-re-hash on how to kill one or some such discussion.

The Ostwind fills too many roles and my reasoning is this:

  • It is the best GV to attack other GV's.
  • It is the best GV to attack ground targets.
  • It is the best GV to attack aircraft.
None of the other GV even come close.

If HTC implements grunts then guess what?  It will be the best Ground Unit to attack grunts.

Other than the M3 and the LVT no other current GV's need to exist.  The Ostwind fills all the roles.

10-20 perks will work, noticing what that did to the singular use of the F4U-1C.

Your opinions, thanks!

HTC models the Wirblewind, then perk it.

Otherwise the game will revert to the GV slaughter of pre-Ostwind days.

If you attack it properly they are easy kills, come in low and stupid and you will die.

If anything should be perked in AH, it's those Ostroaches.

I'm for perking them as an offensive weapon (spawning remotely)... but that's about it.

I gotta agree with that.  Free if ya spawn at the hanger for base defense, but cost perks if ya wanna spawn remote to attack with it.

As weazel reminded us, they aren't that hard to kill when attacked properly.  But that's not the point.

The ostwind is the single best vehicle for any mission.

Take a panzer and camp on a road near a base and wait on the supply convoy.  You'll be lucky to get 4 of the trucks before they're gone.
Take an ostwind and you can wipe out that convoy every time it comes along for over an hour.  I've done it.  Sat near where the convoy spawns in an ostwind for an hour and plastered the convoy 6 times, getting every single truck.  And a couple of aircraft that wandered too close.  When I got bored I still had a couple hundred rounds left, enough for at least 2 more convoys.

A single ostwind can level a base's town for capture.  I've driven the M3 following a single ostwind to a town and then captured the base.  The only base structures that really deplete an ostwind's ammo bin are hangers, and maybe shore batteries.  Though it seemed to only take around 200rounds for the shore battery I blew up in an ostwind this afternoon.

Range in a panzer and it's toast, from any angle.  Earlier today I was in a panzer and an enemy panzer drove right up on me after a 190 knocked out my engine, main gun, and pintle gun in a single strafing pass.  The panzer  hit me 5-6 times from a front angle and only knocked out both tracks.  Then he drove around behind me and finally killed me with a single, point blank shot at the rear end of my tank.  An ostwind would've blown me to hell with the first 3-4 shots from the front.  Watched a friendly ostwind do that to an enemy panzer the next time I spawned.

What if the VH is down?  I often go to a neighbouring field and spawn remotely from that to defend the original field!  :p
