Guncam Utility
« on: April 26, 2002, 07:50:09 AM »
When I flew WB I used Troy's Guncam on occasion; it produces some pretty nice results in terms of recreating the look and feel of vintage guncam footage.  I was thinking of reinstalling it on my machine, but I just wondered if anyone had used it in conjunction with AH, and if so, what the results were like?

For those not familiar with the utility, go here:

i think this guncam feature has been developed for WB and doesn't work with AH ... unless HT is gonna add it as feature in the game. personally i think it's a good thing to think about HT.

I'm not sure as to why you'd need it in AH, with it's film capability and AVI export.

Build a "GUNCAM" option in the film  viewer.

All it would need to do is start up when guns fired, continue filming for a second or two after done firing then playback in black and white and have the four tickmarks.

Who knows...been asking for this for several years....mebbe, mebbe not.

I would love to have a seperate guncam, but I imagine it wouldn't be too high on HTC's priority list...

Do we need another app or just maybe just some additions to what we have now. Perhaps a 'gunsight' view could be added to the AH Filmer and also some after effects in the editor to add grayscale and noise?

it works with ah and looks exactly the same as it does with wbs. It also works with il2.

I'd like a "guncam mode" for the AH film recorder, that would start when the guns are fired, and run for a preset (adjustable) time after the trigger is released.  (As long as it wouldn't produce any warps or glitches in flight.)

hes is talking about a "guncam" not a film.

the way it works ois when you pull the trigger a series of .jpg images are taken, you the covert the jpgs to gif then you animate it.

It looks about as close as possile to ww2 guncan images.

I takes a small zoomed image. It only activates when direct x button 1 on your js is pulled.

Its not compairable to the film viewer.

I'll go make one.

as you can see it not a "film viewer" it only works when trigger is pulled.

I should have been more clear.

I know what a guncam is.. used it for a while

IMO the film view is much much better.
you can crop the view to make it look like a guncam if you want.

The only difference IMO is the gun trigger thing.  In AH Film you wil have to cut out the segments you wish to make guncam films from.
If you want grainy, gun-cam looking shots.. you can do that also.

Thanks Wotan, that's exactly what I wanted to know.  I also just came across a couple of examples from WW2OL so I assumed it was a straight screen capture utility rather than specific to any one appplication.

Wlfgng, how do you get those kinds of effects with the AH Viewer?  Or are you talking about running the film through a third party application?  If so, what do you use?

The cut and past part is built into AHViewer.. as are all the angles etc,

the B&W and graininess are from After Effects.

the part I really like is the fact that you get a streaming movie instead of having to peice together jpg's.

take a look at the movie that is posted in.. uh..

that other thread...by "Obear1971"....not bad for a quickie :)
