Weather front (Clouds)
« on: March 12, 2001, 08:59:00 AM »
Ive had some time to digest this new cloud layer in the game.

At first I was very disappointed and avoided the cloud layer altogether.  Then I began to fly over the layer, then I started flying in it, then under it.

Awesome, simply awesome even on my older system.

Still, the oblique wall effect HAS GOT TO GO!
Also, cloud fronts ARE NOT SQUARE! Make then cell more rounded with uneven edges.

Make these two changes and we have another spectacular winner.

Interstingly HS over on AGW is saying his stuff in WB3 is simply real.  Grab a plane and find some clouds and thats what you will see in WB3.  Something tells me we are gonna have fun picking that one apart

I flew around the
Wall a bit last night.  Strange, but the closer you get to it the better it looks.  If he would diffuse the edge, it would look fine.

In the clouds,.... hmmm

I simply feels that my system needs an upgrade. I disengage if enemy fighter hides in cloud.

And now we have thick, dark clouds. It is even worse. How can I suppose to dogfight while my framerate is near 10 per sec?

Oh, boy :) Give me some break!

Anyhow, New cloud looks really cool. Weather effect is something very cool that I didn't expected to see in this version. I'm very interesting about how it will evolve.

tailight ... on ur tail.

I'm sure it's basic for fr concerns. That grey wall, have you ever seen a thunderstorm in Florida during the summer? It looks very similar. Keep the wall.

It looks nice underneath, looks nice inside and it looks nice above.

When inside and looking beyond to the horizon it looks bad.

Approaching one of these things from a distance it looks really bad.

Nice effort tho.  Hope HT can clean it up.

Going into clouds costs me over half of my FR in flight without other planes in area. I go from 45 / 55 to 16 or less under the borg cube.

Light level under the cube is way lower than it should be. It is almost night time dark instead of grey shadow effect. This washes out planes, icons (friend / foe and info) and that is with monitor at full bright.

Please fix or remove the cloud "feature".

ya know... in my opinion, from my system, they suck.   I can only guess that it is the same for others.  It also appears that some systems are able to use the "black fog" and that it looks really great on their systems.

Obviously... they don't look the same to everyone.
