I'm reading a book about the USS Bunker Hill and its "Helldiver Squadron"(that's the title of the book btw),Bombing 17. It really shows the Beast to actually be a very good plane, capable to withstand quite a lot of damage and to make it back to the ship if flown properly.
I don't think the issue is what we need or do not need in the game. After all,we don't 'need' to play games on the computer in the first place.
Warbired has the SBD and that's why AH should provide the Helldiver as arefreshing interesting alternative.

How about some Japanese planes and ships to oppose alll of the US Pac Theatre stuff?

It can't be interesting to only get the US stuff.

With the new buff type aiming thingie, we deffinatly need the Helldiver or Dauntless.. :D

I would not bother to use alot of time setting up a bomb run with the TBM using the new system..

Divebombers or just plain Jabos will prolly be my choise when i wanna drop something on somebody.  :)

The Helldiver series was plagued with problems in its combat debut.  Rushed into service it had many design and manufacturing flaws (due to war emergency rush into service). The tendancey to shed the rear fuselage in high G pullouts and the loss of elevators in the terminal velocity stage of dives resulted in the loss of some aircrews.

Later variants fixed most of these problems and the Helldiver went on to serve with distinction and became a strategic and valuable asset to the war effort.

The Helldiver will make its way into the sim.
