Hi all, I am new here . I just now signed up and downloaded the basic version. I am an old fan of AW, and found AH accidentaly while looking for a new flight sim to play online. My question is how does AH compare to AW? Will someone be kind enough to share this with me? I am on my 2 week trial period LOL I havn't hooked up any of my joysticks yet or even tried this thing out yet. I flew b-17s, and most all the fighters in AW, and was the originator of the squadron "THE INTRUDERS". I was wondering if I may find some old friends in here. Lookin forward to havin some fun again, thanks in advance for any replys.

Well Lookie here, a neighbor from Brentwood, Long Island! I'm in Franklin Square myself.

God, AW is a distant memory here.

Many AW refugees are here so if you were plugged into the AW scene, you're sure to find some old friends.

My whole squad, the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Marine Air Wing are here.

Meanwhile, how does AH stack up? No comparison, really. SUPER EXTREME CUSTOMER SUPPORT is here. The hell with big companies, this sim is run by 7 people who really really care about their product and their customers. Thats the number one selling point.

AS for the game itself, if you played RR in AW, your in for a steep learning curve. If you played FR in AW, your in for a steep learning curve. *laughs*

There's alot to learn here, and this game is ever changing. Selling point number 2.

2 weeks is not enough to fully appreciate this sim. If you find yourself overwhelmed, swing on by the TA and someone will help you out.

Otherwise, give me a yell if you see me on, and I'll answer any questions you have.

Final point, the "Top Gun" callsigns have been beat to death. If you choose any of these we will mecilessly hunt you down!;)

How does AH compair to AW?... To me it's like the difference between Chess and Checkers. There both fine games, but they have almost nothing in common other than the playing field.

AW in the RR arenas was a really fun checkers game. You could log on if you only had a short time to play and truly have a ball.
I enjoyed the "bowling league" type of play that we had there. The squad nights were a lot of fun. We would even plan our squad nights so that we would face specific opposing squads.

AH is more of an indepth game of chess. You've got a lot more to learn, and when playing, there is much more to it then the old arcade style "yank-&-bank".

In my opinion... let me repeat that... In my opinion, AH is the much better game as far as realism, graphics, and customer support. But the community was freindlier in AWRR and the game was more "fun" in a beer drinking back-slapping sort of way.

Thanks for those helpful replies. I just hope I am up to the challenge. I don't really have a lot of time for this sim, like I used to have. I can scrape up an hour or two a day hopefully. Is there a more complete sim on the market I can buy? Or is this download I started with enough? As for DMAX's question, 2 weeks for me is just for me to decide if this game will be interesting and challenging and fun enough for me to stay with it. It sure as hell sounds like it will be after reading your helpful replies. looking forward to flying with you all;

The download that you got is the same version of the game that everyone in the game uses, so you don't have to drop and extra cash on the game (that is until you have been hooked into the wonderful world of AH and feel compelled to feed you addiction at $15 a month).

Come in, check the game out. If you take the time to learn some basics, the game becomes incredibly fun and challenging.

Sirch, this SIM rocks as others have told you. As a Veteran of AW 1, 2, 3 and Millenium, I can tell you that AH wins hands down. The learning curb is steep, but even then you will have fun just learning the sim - as I am doing. Come on in and have fun. "Wizer"

AH is the bees knees sirch. I also played AW from Bigweek on, pretty well always in FR.
AH wasnt THAT hard to learn actually as long as you were an FR-er. Keep it smooth and imagine what a real plane would do and youre pretty OK. ie: only blown away 9 times out of 10.. lol but the kills come....
The ping is great, even here in NZ we get waaay better than ever we did in AW, you can fly/drive not only planes but the airfield ack, vehicles (trucks, tanks, AA, landing craft) and PT boats and even maneuver the carrier fleet. Fleet! as in with Battleship and yes you can fire th main guns!!
You get rockets of course, a new 4 buff box (coming next release... 2 weeks...) and a sometimes eclectic selection of aircraft. Macchies, mitsubishis and all.
(and 7 more coming next release also...)
And also note the perk system. You get points for kills, the better the kill (ie if you have a wussy plane and he/she has an uber plane and you win..) the better the points. the points can be traded for rides in uber planes ie: the 262 or arado 234 jets. But if you die in mission the perk points are gone and you start collecting again. Means you can fly those planes anytime but you get a bit gun shy in them.... lol.

anyway, enuff blathering... it is very very very good cf AW.. well worth your $15. Get into it.
