DirectX - Joystick question
« on: May 19, 2002, 10:51:35 AM »
Since I have a new USB stick, the joystick input port of my CH Pro pedals (gameport) is now free. I tried to plug the secondary gameport connector (toebrakes) of the pedals into the joystick input and, to my delight, it worked!  I can now use the rudder AND the toebrakes.

The only problem is the calibration. Win98SE sees the rudder-toebrakes combo as one joystick: Joystick axis X is left toebrake, Joystick axis Y is right tobrake and joystick rotation X is rudder. Unfortunately, to complete the calibration, Win98SE requires to press a joystick button, which, obviously, is absent on the CH Pro pedals.... I can avoid the problem by using my old gameport joystick temporarily during the calibration. However, the process is far from accurate (regarding the toebrakes) and a bit of a pain in the butt.

Is it a way (piece of software, key combination or other) to simulate the event of a joystick button being pressed? It would make the calibration much easier for me.

Thanks in advance.

Unless you splice a button on the aux. cable of the Pro Pedals, you're not going to be able to calibrate the extra axis of the Pro Pedals.  The toe brakes will only work in DOS with the analog version of the Pro Pedals, unless you splice that button in.

can u not do the axis calibration routine and instead of pressing a button, click the OK selection in the windows dialogue box?

I know I do, with my USB controllers...

There's a utility called "JoyClick" in the JOYREGS.ZIP file on the Stickworks page http://home.att.net/~stickworks/  that might work for you.

Skurj,

if you only press OK, the calibration results aren't taken into account....unfortunately.

Dennis,

thanks for the link. I'll try it this evening. If it doesn't work, I'll splice a button in the cable, like akak suggested.

Anyway, thanks for your help folks!
