Free WB this weekend
« on: May 20, 2002, 12:21:01 PM »
I see WB is free this weekend. Never played it myself but might check it out. Makes me wonder tho if 1.10 will be out this week, it would be good timing on HTCs part.

IMO no need for timing anything from HTC part simply because there's no real competition anymore.

And yes, this is O'club stuff

EDIT: I'm sure we'll get 1.10 this week :)

It sure seems rude to advertise a competitors game on HTCs server.

If we wanted to try WB, we already would have.  Plenty of us already have played it, and found AH better anyway.

I think HT and Pyro should follow IENs lead on this, and delete this threads and those like it.

My take on it is;

A. HT and Pyro will always have a soft spot in thier hearts for WBs.

B. HTC doesn't like to censure, unless thier hands are force by tasteless posts.

Honestly, I can't see what would draw people over there anyway, except the plane graphics.  I don't think that HTC has anything to worry about from that direction.

You can still play AH for free anytime you want, not just on a holiday weekend you might have been out of town for.

You are not forced into using some relaxed realism flight model (not just an option of easy takeoffs AH offers, never forces).

How many people are in the Warbirds arenas vs AH?

BTW, I would much rather support a company like HTC that runs itself and really listens to it's player base.   I see constant frustration with IEN, not only from the player base, but Iceman and Hotseat also.  Wild Bill seems to want to turn Warbirds into competition with all the arcade games like Fighter Ace, and has ignored the player base they already had.  I see some improvements very recently (I kind of like Target), but to me it's to little, WAY too late.

my $.02

When I want to fly a sim that HT and crew created I fly AH.  He's improved on his first effort by leaps and bounds.  :D

You guys are probably right, I should have put this in OT but at the time I was just browsing and decided to post this.  It was not meant as some WB advertisement though. It was more about 1.10 coming out this week. Its a long weekend and WB has a promotion going on, I just thought its a little extra incentive for HTC to get 1.10 out.
   Even though I currently do not have an open account I still am anxious to see 1.10, even if its only offline.

Let me get this straight..... You don't have an AH account, you post free WB in the general forum and say "It was not ment as an advertisement for WB."  Just wanted to get this right...  Sorta like shooting 4 neighbors the wife and dog and telling the police "the gun accidentally went off while you were cleaning it.":)

Been to Warbirds....stayed over three weeks to give it a shot.  Felt like "mush".  Came here and the world is good.

Easy one! The RPS, S3s, better graphics
====
RPS, although an interesting experiment, promoted a rather healthy migration from WBs to AH.  The Perk Point system is a much friendlier system that allows me to fly whatever I want whenever the mood suits me and provides excellent incentive for me to challenge myself and my buds by flying the earlier rides.

S3s had a great initial advantage over AH but the Special Events arena and Crew cut that advantage in half last year just by forming.  Coupled with the user accessible Terrain Editor and the fantastic community generated maps have at best, made WBs a draw on that score.

Better graphics?  Far more people with less computing power have access to AcesHigh and the graphics still compare favourably to WBsIII regardless of opinion.  At a suitable time (ie business profitable) and in as fast a manner as usual,  AcesHigh will no doubt release a new graphics version that will once again put WBsIII in undisputable second place.

But none of this will matter.  There will be a small but devoted crowd of WWII game/sim enthusiasts flying in WBsIII the day the plug is pulled and only two things will be heard.  First: "Hey!  what happened?"   And second: the scampering sound as people run to the best choice and realize all the time they wasted supporting a poorly managed company called iEN.

AcesHigh is the smart choice but that doesnt qualify in some circles.
