Alias, I had the same reservations before going to last years AH Con, which was my first in six years of flying online MMP flight sims.

Let me reassure you that there is absolutely NONE, ZILCH, ZERO, NADA of this type of behavior at the con. It is one big party of flight sim nerds drinking, laughing and generally having a great time.

The difference between this BBS and the AH Con is night and day.

Go to the con, you won't regret it! :)

People tend to gravitate towards their own in real life. People like Mav and I wouldn't spend much time in the presence of one another without realising that we have nothing to offer each other. On the boards though, you can't just walk away and go hang out in your own little group. The extraverts and loudmouths (like me) can butt in on any thread, and say damn well anything they want. In real life there isn't all the name calling and harrassment because in real life, Deja is unlikely to hear Botabing relay his story, and botabing wouldn't threaten Deja because he'd be busy having fun with his squadies/friends/homeys/whatever.

When I was a kid growing up in the Philipines, I recall putting various insects into a jar, and shaking the jar up to see "who would win" (eg, 5 fire ants, or the wierd looking beetle). Well, welcome to the jar so to speak. This BBS puts a lot of people together, who might not do so on the outside.

Anyhow, there are all kinds of people who play this game, and the BBS is not necessarily reflective of that many of them. I think that you would be denying yourself one of the best parts of being in an on-line community if you were to drop out of the con at this point.

Maybe this is one of those "ironic" posts that someone else just tried to explain was so funny.

Please mathman.. share with the rest of us your insite into what you "know".

Bot is in my squad, and I know this is not him.  If you know Bot, you know that he would not post anything like this under an "Alias"  and that he doesn't come from a software company background.

As for the posts that Bot has made, the only thing I will say is that some of them I do not agree with, others I do.  That is why I don't jump into something that he has gotten himself into.  He can defend himself as he wishes.  Yes, I wish he would talk to one of us that have been here longer, but he doesn't.  That's his problem to deal with.

I jumped in here because you are operating here under the impression that it is him.  I wanted to clear the air on that.  Sorry if it came across as if I knew something about some kind of "inside moronic/ironic" post.  I do not know who this guy is, but I do know who it isn't.

BTW, I agree with some of what this guy has said.  The part about the rapid name calling and such.  That is what has been pissing me off here on the BBS and in the game on channel 1 (that and the shear idiocy of what some people say - particularly in the game).

As far as what most of the people here are like, I like the ones that I have met, whether at the con last year or this last weekend at Chino.  If this guy hasn't chosen for certain not to go, I hope he decides to go.  He will probably have a good time.  He will also see that many of the people are not quite the amazinhunks in person that they are here on the boards.

Oh well, take what I said as you wish.

I have not missed a con since 96.  It is a great get away.

The AH cons are a lot more tamed then the WB cons of old.  Those were flat out bashes, and a different kind of fun.  I don't care what type of personality you have...you will find yourself having a good time.

Hblair, that picture was actually taken for you.

I was at last year's con and its absolutely nothing like the BB.

Go, have fun and talk sims and computers.  I'd go this year if I could afford it, but the damned economy is keeping me home.:(

Some people choose to only show people what they feel makes them look good.  In order to say/do things that are contrary to the image they are trying to portray, they assume alliases.

With me, that is not the case.  What you read is the same as what you'd see and is what you get.  I don't hide from my comments and pretend it was someone else that said them.  My e-mail is dstaines@teleport.com and has been since I changed ISPs from concentric.net (because of DSL).

So... excuse me if I don't take a post by alias in the same manner as others.  Excuse me if I find more than a tad bit of irony in "I'm sick of amazinhunks that call people names".  This whole thread is a farce.

The dork factor at this years con will be lessened.
0osik's and my sister is getting married in Alaska at about the same time as the con.  :(  We'll try to make next year's.
