Here's an idea we covered a while back, but considering we can assume 1.10 is in the final stages, perhaps it's time to revisit this concept.
We all know how a field is captured now. Level the town, drop troops, 10 troops make it in MAP room, field is captured.
Here's the idea. If you've seen this ad nauseum, please forgive me. I know HT has been talking about a FPS element to the game. This may take long to impliment, and some may not like it.
Each town, will be guarded by 10 AI Troops of the country holding the town. During the attack of the town, these troops may be killed by strafing, or bombing. They will be stationed about the town in strategic, but random locations. Once the town is flat, the assaulting goon troops are dropped, and if any defending troops survive, defense of the maproom begins. A firefight ensues, with the winning side being determined by either a roll of the dice, or some other program that the guys come up with. Many things can come into play, such as morale, fatigue, drop location, natural and man made cover, etc.
As the firefight is progressing, both the defending and attacking countries can continue to drop troops to reinforce thier lines. Also, bombing and strafing will be all the rage.
Add to this mix, the possibility of GV's defending the town, and you have the requirement for Special Forces units, who, once dropped, are assigned to attack any ground vehicles within a certain radius. If all GV's are killed, the troops move on to enemy troops, and eventually, the map room.
These same Special Forces troops can be dropped anywhere on the map as well, to combat incoming GV's.
Once GV's are eliminated, any surviving troops loiter for X amount of time, and then disappear (reassigned). Of course, these troops would also be subject to strafing and the delicious machine gun fire of the Human controlled GVs. (Think of the fun of mowing these things down!)
Finally, and this is the one point I'm soft on, if a trooper kills a GV, the credit can either go to the goon that dropped him, or give a proxy kill to a friendly. (Or give no kill credit at all).
In my opinion, this concept should not be very hard to impliment, and would require minimal prgramming on HTCs part when compared to creating an entire FPS. It would add a new strategic spin on the game, making goons more important, and giving all pilots and GV's a more target rich enviornment.
Thoughts?
