how many of you US citizens have a flag on your car?
« on: May 24, 2002, 12:08:25 PM »
......and have had it blowing in the wind since 9/11....and its all tattered and ripped and dirty and 1/2 is left.. or put up a flag outside your home/apartment and not thought about it in months..I see this every day ..filthy flags, torn flags, 1/2 disintegrated flags on your pickup trucks and such...are you the same people that would like the Amendment to prohibit US flag burning? don't you think you are showing the same disrespect by your treatment of the flag on your car/home?

any thoughts?

If that isn't bad enough Hawk?!   The amazinhunk neighbor across the street finally took down a 4'x8' flag from HIS GUTTER!!!!  It was wadded up and stained.  I asked him "to stop pissing on the flag like that and take it down".   He took it down.

What cracks me up was the "bandwagon patriotism" that ensued.   I could replace my old flag for like two months after that happened.  Mine was slightly frayed and I wouldn't fly it.  I loved my country NO LESS before, and NO LESS after.

yes, a guy down the street had his blown up into his gutter and instead of taking it down after a Seattle downpour, he just pulled it out of the gutter and let it hang again.. dirt/mud/leaves and all...made me so angry...oh..and another symptom of this...the local dry cleaner put up on their readerboard that they would clean..for free..US flags.. what the hell is that? there are established traditions and rules what to do with a soiled US flag. I mean, WTF? taking a flag to the cleaners like it was a sport coat?

my decal is alittle faded, should I replace it?

I'd rather see a torn US flag than no flag at all

What's also ironic is how many of those flags were made in China.

I got a flag in my crackerjacks yesterday :)

I don't have one on or in my car but I printed one and put it up in my cube on 9-12 and it's been there ever since, and it hasn't faded :)

I use a Decal in the rear window of my F-150.  I've been a sailor most of my life and I knew what would happen to those flags.

I'm not judging the people who fly them.  They will learn from experience as we all do.

Dirty worn-out flags seem about right for a country that doesn't even raise an eyebrow when SEAL turned Pro-Wrestler turned Politician Jessie the fek-head Ventura equates a simple requirement to have schoolchildren say the pledge of allegiance to it once a week the same as Nazi and Taliban indoctrination and refused to sign a bill to enact it.

Oh, and the line about the flags being made in China... priceless.

I don't, and never have.

That isn't how I show my patriotism.  I show mine by voting, educating myself on what is happening and my actions.  I will be critical of my country when I think it is making a mistake, and I will defend it when I think it is under unjust verbal attack.

I don't see rubber stamp, "me too", herd mentality as a desirable thing in a free society.

Typical closet USA hating SF liberal  (Im giving you a break as Marin is even worse!) answer to the patriot question.

Thanks Karnak.....  :(

Unjust verbal attack, gotta love that. So when those verbs and nouns and prepositions start landing on our shores or hurting our interests abroad we know who to call......

GRUNHERZ,

I'm sorry you're so dense, but I was talking about the things I've actually encountered, and done, in my life.

This is quite different from the fantasy world you seem to live in where you have to be ready to grab an M-16 at any moment to be ready to fight off the invading hordes of terrorists that are just waiting for the right moment.

Should my nation actually be in a fight for survival, I'll join up in a heartbeat.  Contrary to what the politicos may be saying, we aren't in a fight for our nation's survival right now.

I will fight to the death to ensure you have the right to be a vocal, bigoted ass.  Fortunately I don't have to right now.

But Karnak just read what you wrote man, please, it's just such a stereotypically liberal response to that particular question.

Don't you see how funny that is?  Can't you laugh at that a little a bit? Just laugh at yourself a bit, dont take yourself so seriously.  :)

On a less funny note though.

Frankly I resent that you use the term "sandcupcake" in response and reference to my post. I dont go around blasting such derogatory and crude terms and insults to any ethnic group of people on this BBS. And very specifically have never advocated "getting all the arabs" in response to 911.  Well I did want Afghanistan wiped out on the morning of 911 but that was just an emotional overeaction felt by most I suppose.  So please dont paint me as some sort of racist or some other wild liberal  racist fantasy you have about me.
