We may not be able to apply what was "fun" in WB's and early AH in this new game.

I remember one night diving in on a low nme. Fester and his wingie were high alt and called out "go get em nomde". I presently lined up on the nme's 6 at about 400yds and couldn't for the life of me hit the bastage. Well after about a minute of playing with my food, fester got so disgusted he zoomed down and took my supper, crumbs and all :p
No biggie, i'm glad he got him as someone switched my meds and I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn that night, hehe. In either case, the nme was ded and there was one less to worry about....NEXT....

There is a solution to all of this; go fly where there are lots of red dots and no green ones.  Let the nme worry about who's stealing kills :D

I used to get PEssid off when I flew the zero alot, but I found the ammo load actually usually takes a while to allow you the kill; not to mention that if you are turning (which you ought to be in a zero) it's a bit more difficult to get  a nice stream to hit at or around convergence distance.  Solution?  Become an la7 dweeb.  When I flew zero, kills to assists were about 2:1.  La7, 6:1

Not many "kill stealers" if you choose your target, keep your distance from friendlies, fly well, aim well, and take a nice gun.

Only happened to me once so far.  Was in a Hurricane D on f6f's tail ziggin and zaggin around on deck plinking him with 303's from 200-240 yards back looking for a 40mm shot chance.  Got him smoking and tired a guess because he leveled out "Ah Ha!" I say and fire the 40mm.  But wait,  BOOM!  I'm dead as someone drives through my plane and with impeccable timing catches a 40mm round for me.

400+ dweebs on means more targets for you to choose. Were you spraying and praying near a base full of friends and foes? Not too realistic to expect an uninterrupted joust.

Get interrupted during an engagement? Let the interloper distract your prey and use the break to get in a better position or just disengage and go for someone else.

It all depends on who you're flying with or against. Also, there is no kill stealing. Everybody pays for em.
When in doubt, check the picture ...

The kill stealing dosent bother me, if i loose 1 kill im not fused.

My point being that its just plain rude, and if i had a nice 7 or 8 kill ranked up on that flight, the actions of the pilot would have ruined the ability to land and bank them.

Not that this would really make me fumeing mad and angry for the rest of the day, its just so inconsiderate.

Plain and simple.

Define "kill stealing" then.  Do you mean if you've got the other guy considerably damaged and/or death spiralling into the dirt when someone comes along to blast the carcass?

Because if that's not what you mean, then it's not kill stealing.  Kill faster next time and suck it up if you killshooter yourself.  It's not a matter of civility or consideration.  Unless you've essentially destroyed the enemy, he is no more yours than he is anybody elses'.  It's not up to the other guy to care about your seven or eight kill streak when he's trying to start his own.

I don't understand how people apparently killshooter themselves on a seemingly regular basis.  Don't you have SA?  Don't you watch around you?  Don't you see that friendly diving in BEFORE you pull the trigger?

You should know where every plane, friendly and NME, within 3-4K of you is at all times, and their E state and intentions too.  Anything less signifies bad SA.  If you know a friendly is diving in to kill "your" plane, and you killshooter yourself trying to get it before he does....well, that ain't his fault.

EDIT:    For the record, I hate killshooter too, but not because I die from it (I don't).   I hate it because I prefer a PNG system for killers of friendly planes.

What happened to me last night was a slightly different version of this same theme but I mention it because it had never happened to me before.

I usually fly an la-5 which means if I'm not inside d500, closer to d400 I'm wasting lead by firing.  Last night, I spent a few minutes working in on this cons six, I checked the distance, d450, so I let out a full burst.  Just as my lead started lighting up the cons wing a country mate HOed the con.  As they passed he flew directly thru my lead.  Although I'm usually a fan of a well executed HO, that pissed me for a minute.  BUT...that's the game.  I must admit I do hate killshooter, I think if your stupid enough to fly into a stream of lead you deserve to die no matter who fired it.  On the other hand I'm certain the game would be totally out of control without it.

By the way, next time you have a country mate on your six trying to shoot over your shoulder, wiggle your wings a bit and try to catch some of his tracers.  Might as well use killshooter to your own advantage.

I dunno...

Why doesn't HT have killshooter affect both the target and the shooter.

Then add PNG on top of that... and make the targret only receive 20% damage instead of full.

The current implementation prevents obnoxious players from killing their own team mates.

What the current implementation does not address is:
1. Kill stealing
2. dweebs which run into your fire and you kill your self by accident.

Turning off killshooter so that no one takes damage... just allows gangbangers to pile on with out penalty.

Friendly collisions would be cool... but taking off would be difficult if spawn locations aren't moved.

I say add a PNG system with friendlies taking full or almost full damage from friendly fire, except don't count deaths to friendly planes against you in the scores.  This would discourage people from deliberately shooting down friendlies who "stole their kill".

I think it's just fine the way it is. HTC was had to carefully weigh all the options and this system is probably the best comprosie that can be done. I've come to this conclusion in Aces High, whether I like something or not it is what it is. I try to understand it the best I can and make the most out of each situation with that information. In this situation I think its really all about SA and beleive it or not, sense beta, I have only shot myself down a couple of times. I think I jumped in front of Rude once and I felt bad about that but the game is all about having fun and if you don't feel comfortable scraping with the dogs and trying to walk away with the bone....... find another target. Lord knows there always fresh targets.  Oh, and if there aren't enough targets for you..... Join the Knights! :D
