lock-ups+blue screen+error msg
« on: June 17, 2002, 05:11:37 PM »
i got a few problems with AH, my pc reboots in midflight but worse is that it goes blue screen with the following error message:

"driver_irql_not_less_or_equal"
"address bff64f8 base at bdfdc0000, datestamp 3c55fe31-cmaudio.sys"
and some more text...

does that mean my onboard audio is screwed?

was hoping that somebody had experienced the same problem sometime...

ty,

Sounds like you have some type of hardware problem, most likely a resource conflict that one of your drivers can't deal with.

Give me some more details, all your hardware, your OS, video driver versions, etc.  Also, run msinfo32 and list any IRQ's that are conflicting or sharing.

Don't know if this will help but it's what microsoft says your trouble is.

thank you for the replies guys.

my problematic computer is as follows:

amd athlon xp 1800
asus a7s333 mobo
256mb mosel ram
inno3d gf4200 with det 28.90
win2k pro

with irqs:
IRQ Number   Device
1   Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard
3   Communications Port (COM2)
4   Communications Port (COM1)
6   Standard floppy disk controller
8   System CMOS/real time clock
12   PS/2 Compatible Mouse
13   Numeric data processor
14   Primary IDE Channel
15   Secondary IDE Channel
16   NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200
17   CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Device
17   Motorola SM56 Voice Modem
19   SiS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller
19   D-Link DFE-538TX 10/100 Adapter
20   Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System
23   SiS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller

it seems that the cm audio device shares the same irq as the modem but i connect to AH through a LAN, not to mention the redundant pci to usb controller at 19 and 23.  how do you change irqs for a certain device?

it could also be the heat but the asuspobe registers the cpu at 52degC at the most. or it could be a hot gf4 but i opened one side of my casing  and got a fan blowing into it.

i get more frequent lockups/ctd/reboots after around 5 hours of AH.

ill disable all third party programs as per microsoft advise on this error msg.

kubwak

I'm a bit confused on your IRQ assignments. You list 23 IRQ's but computers only have 15. I looked at your manual to see if I was missing something but it confirms that your board only has 15 IRQ's available. Did I miss something and if so, I have to apologize for my stupidity. Hope you get it worked out.

Yup, just as I figured, it was my stupidity and not an error on your computer's part. I work with hardware most of the time and spend much less time with operating systems than I should, sorry for that. A computer does only have 15 irq's but in Win2k the OS actually assigns higher values than the bus actually reports. here's a link that explains why.

http://support.microsoft.com/search/preview.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q180287 .

Here's another that explains how to change the irq's in win2k.

http://support.microsoft.com/search/preview.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q315419#3

I don't use Win2k myself so I'm probly not the right person to be commenting on your problem. I run a dual boot system with XP Pro and Win98SE. I got tired of the hardware issues in XP and the poor game performance. Hope you get it figured out. At least you have Win2k trying to seperate the IRQ's for you, in XP they are all assinged to IRQ 9(add in cards only) LOL and it's a major pain to fix it. Good Luck!

Wow that's amazing Skurj. I'm curious if your post screen shows those values as well. You guys must have newer chipsets than mine. Never seen values that high before

DW I am using an MSI K7T Turbo2 and it has APIC mode which increases the number of IRQ's somehow...

I aslo installed XP fresh with APCI disabled
