I wasn't aware that the US was stopping the world from having fun.

We must be pretty damn powerful.

No wonder you care what we think. :)

Citizens of the United States have many faults.

But being 'scared' isn't one of them.

I am following the world cup continuously. There is a stereotype of people in the USA that we don't know about or like "futbol" or soccer. I have seen such in Europe and Latin America.

In addition, some words of wisdom fellow gringos.  I have a lot of experience with other cultures and have had to endure learning two other languages in addition to my native english. I recommend giving people where english is their second language the benefit of the doubt. Speaking from experience and mistakes that I have made in the past, it's very difficult to translate what may be humorous in one language and culture to another.

Be careful how you say, "sorry I embarrased your daughter" in Spanish.

OK, you REALLY wanna know why Americans hate soccer and the World Cup? It's because we've never WON the damn thing! And we're used to winning everything because we're Americans.

Do you Euros know what it's like to have the fastest runners, best golfers, best tennis players, and to win every international competition from archery to yachting? Of course not! How COULD you know what that is like? You aren't American and thus spoiled by success in EVERY VENUE, EVERY UNDERTAKING we have ever attempted- except soccer and that stupid goat carcass game Hortlund plays in Sweden.

Look Europe, the bottom line is that if soccer paid half as much as a courtesy clerk makes here in America we'd attract enough kids with athletic ability to win EVERY world cup. We are bigger, stronger and faster than you are. And more humble too.

...And Thrawn speaks from Canada, the Land of Curling! The most boring sporting event I ever attended were the World Curling Championships in Canada. All the participants had humped backs from bending over their brooms after hours and hours of pratice so I felt like I was attending a Quasimoto convention. Sorry, but after an hour in the press tent with all the humpbacked curlers staring at me at crotch level I got the heebee-jeebies and stood outside next to a snowdrift and shivered. I'll take baseball over hump backed Canadian curlers anytime.
