The real question is this : whay are American footballers so scared that they have to wear enourmous amounts of padding and a helmet while playing their version of the game?
Put a proffesional rugby union or league team against a gridiron team in a game of gridiron....you'll still get a game, no doubt with the Americans coming out as winners.
put a proffessional gridiron team in a game of union or league against a proffessional side....and you will have MANY casualties, virtually all of them in the first 10 minutes, and nearly all Gridiron players.
American football is a great game, but c'mon guys....whats with all the mamby pamby fairey pads and helmet?? your not scared of a bit of contact sport are ya?

P.S. my home town has clubs for all three above mentioned codes....I've played amatuer club level in all three.....gridiron is by FAR the least likely to involve injury in my experience.
Then League, then Union....that game is just an excuse for brutality on a weekly basis

Played club level soccer too, but only untill I discovered that physical size was much more of an advantage when you actually get to grind the other bloke into the dirt without being sent off
