Monday morning puzzle, what is wrong with this picture

Look at the picture below, loverly isnt she :) but look at the lower wing...

it is greatly reduced in preportion to the upper wing.

Forshorterning should actually apllie this the opposite way, the top wing (being further away and going off into the distance) should look shorter and the bottom wing (being closer and comming towards the screen) should be larger.

This picture dont look right at all to me, my verdict, its be docterd to fit the image size.

What you make of it?

The wings are at an angle, sort of like very wide V when viewed from front.

Looks funny though.

Its called dihedral

Wings come together at a shallow angle.

Used to improve stability in low & mid wing planes the most. High wing planes don't need it.

You can even see it in the picture you provided.
Look at the aft edge of the wing where it meets in the center. Its one angle below the centerline and another above it.

Looks like he's in a turn... maybe 2-3-4Gs... this would cause the wings to bend outward from the middle in a turn, thus making the wings look even moreso out of proportion.

Make a V with your fingers and look at the effect for yourself.  From above the V, the closest wing to the camera will always look smaller.  From below the V, the closest wing to the camera will always look bigger.

yeh never thought that the angle of the wings (pointing the wing tips up) would cause the angle of perspective to be more servear on the bottom wing.

still looks weird though

It looks wierd because of what I said... the perspective off at that angle wouldn't account for the wings being that bent.

Left wing (on top) is too long and right wing (bottom) is too short. Since the bank is about 45 degrees both wings should be bout same size but opposite adjacent to each other in direction and perspective.

Ok, winding down my propeller on head now. Wiiiiuuuoooozz zzz.

Your plane uses too much lipstick.

So in a medium to hi G turn the P38 pilot would have an even worse view over the wings? Never thought that was posible...Does AH model this?
