Invisible plane bug still being exploited
« on: June 25, 2002, 02:22:34 AM »
I know exactly who it is, too.

Just five minutes ago I was looking for ground targets to attack when I popped into A43. It was capped pretty tight by the knights, so I was checking out the situation to see if I could risk a sortie. From outside view from the tower I watched the Vehicle Hangar explode with no aircraft in view. That's possible I suppose, if an buff was above 30k. I looked and couldn't even see a dot up there. So I panned around and watched as rockets came from nowhere (again). I started film rolling, but once again it doesn't show anyone that wasn't visible.

I presume HTC knows who this guy is. I believe I still have film of him running his mouth off about how easy it is to do.

Very uncool, and I intend to make him suffer in my own way. :D

Why bother posting about one person taking advantage of a known problem and not give thier name?

If he was doing it on purpose and bragging about it, this person should be handled differently than someone it happens to "accidentally".

Who was it?

Voss, I'm curious to find out if it's the same guy that did it to me.

No, it's not the same guy. I'm sure HTC can check the logs (radio buffer) and find the culprit. I don't know if they log object damage by user name, but that would work too.

I didn't post his handle, because I want him online when 1.10 comes out.:D

I don't play in the Main Arena, so maybe I don't really know what I'm talking about... But is there really even an "Invisible Bug" or is it just someone who got shot down, didn't see the guy behind him, or a warp, and now everyone thinks they got shot down by an "invisible plane" when the other really just guy warped or snuck up behind him.

So is it really a bug? or just lag and everyones imagination?

But like I said before, I don't play in the MA so I may not know what I'm talking about but I've never noticed in the H2H.

it is a bug don't remember the details but people described (on both ends and to those that did bring it up when it happened to them i commend u for your honesty). apparently what happens is the person's plane becomes invisible to everyone else and people around them appear as distant object even though they're near (can tell by the range under their icons i think). so they can pretty much go around blowing stuff up and not getting caught IF they abuse it.
one more thing i don't think it originated in AH related but has something to do with a recent software upgrade that they use for LANs or something. on the other hand HTC i'm sure is looking into this trying to fix it.

In H2H I heard hits on my plane like someone was making passes at me. This was for about 5 passes. The strange thing was the "hits" did no damage at all. This only started after the last upgrade.

It is a real bug and HTC has a real fix coming in 1.10.

However, it has recently reached legendary status on the excuse chart.

And there are different ways the invisible plane seems to hit.  I've had the "damage, damage, Dead... no credit" version of the invisible plane hit me.

I've also had an invisible plane attack me and cause damage... only to auger near me while I was landing... giving me credit for a proximity kill (have a good film of that one).  I spoke with the gentleman that was flying the invisible craft and am quite convinced that was a connection issue.

Enough people have claimed to be present when an invisible C-47 dropped troops for me to believe there is some merrit to that.

The thing is... enough C-47s are shot down that its difficult to believe these are anything but isolated (well.. semi-isolated) incidents that rarely occur.  If someone has figured out how to manipulate it... he's definately in the minority.

Unfortunately, the assumption will now be that anyone experiencing this bug is doing it on purpose.

That is how harmfull this kind of thread is.  The author should have just taken a snapshot of the situation and sent it (preferably with film) to HTC instead of coming here for some kind of reaffirmation.

Could I be mistaken? Certainly.

This is how my experience with it happened...
I'm flying NOE in a Mosquito enroute to an enemy field. Hangtime at my high left at about 2.0 k away. I've been killing sneaky goons all evening, so my eyes are really open for any enemy cons, high and low. I think my SA is pretty good, but I also know that the Mossie isn't exactly a goldfish bowl when it comes to visibility. Anyway, Hang and I had been giving each other check 6's back and forth thru the range voice channel.

Suddenly I hear the sound of a speeding engine closing on me... I check all around, but see nothing. Then, BLAM! My plane is in two pieces, and within a second I bail and open chute. For the next 20 seconds of silk-riding, I am looking in EVERY direction to find what it was that killed me... nothing for miles, except for Hangtime. I asked him if he saw what got me, but he said "nothing, you just exploded"

The text buffer gave me my killer's name, so I asked him where he came from... no response.

Now I concede it could very well be poor SA, but I really don't think so. I don't automatically make assumptions of cheating when I'm shot down.

Anyway, I remember the guy's name, and I'll be keeping my eyes open.

Lol, Rip, I'll add you to the list too. :D

This particular individual is well aware of how to do it, has bragged about it, and continues to exploit it. He deserves what he has coming.
