CT Goers Poll: Possible Set-ups for 1.10
« on: June 25, 2002, 06:23:01 PM »
It sounds as if 1.10 is due out very soon.  The CT CMs may have some things lined up for us, but I thought that this would be a good time for us to let them know what we would like to see that would involve the new 1.10 planes and changes, in the Combat Arena.  I am including a list of some obvious 1.10 themes for CT set-ups.  Please indicate weather you would like to see any of these ideas in the near future.  Most importantly, please add ideas that would make any of the set-ups work well AND please feel free to suggest your own ideas for possible set-up themes.
* I think that the CT is the perfect place to see what the new early birds can do without having to go up against the late war monsters (El Gay Seven, etc.) as they will have to in the MA.

1.  Flying Tigers.  - P-40B Vs early Japanese planes, probably in the Burma map.

2.  Midway.  - With 1.10 we should have enough early Pacific planes to pull this off.  If someone could whip out a big blue map with just the Midway islands and a bunch of CVs, this could be fun.

3.  Early war Pacific.  - Early war Pacific planes with more of a base capture emphasis.

4.  Bombers over Germany.  - Even with the new 3-ship bomber formations, it might take a bit to get folks into this, but basically- Late war Allied bombers raid Germany, Germans play the buff hunters.

5.  Big Map Strategy & Bombers.  - One of the various CT themes that we have already run, but using the new big map with an emphasis on three zone strategy and bomber formations (could I be more vague?).

#2 & 3 Then all the others can fall in line. However I still think you need another setup. USA/Britain vs. VVS! That setup would KICK ASS!

I like the idea of 1,2 and 3, my concern with the larger map would be watering down the size of the battles since the CT has somehwat limited #'s

oh and 4, 4, 4,.... my p51 has been waiting for large buff formations to escort for ages :)

but I'd fly either of the 1st 4 with gusto :)

S!

There is also the Med.

I plan to do some setups which use the P-40, as well as the Wildcat, (Martlet) and Dauntlas, all of which saw combat there.

Hoping we will get the P-38F too so a Med version will be available...  ;)

1,2 & 3

The rest can take their turn.

Would like to see more PTO based scenarios. The spaces between them in the lineup is WAY too long. ETO & MTO are ok but just don't do it for me.

If it doesn't have a CV (with US planes) in it ain't worth showing up for. IMHO.

Lastly, the set-up currently in the CT ain't making it. Deep Six this one. It is more geared to individual pilots than squad useage.

Med would be great, as would anything pre 1944 Pacific or Burma.

The first four sound good...I really look forward to #4.

What lowe said...pto, pto, pto   I'm look forward to flying ijn against the hellcats :D

I'll agree with soulyss...#5 probably wouldn't be very good give the smaller numbers in the CT.

[edit]  It has been mentioned before (I can't remember whom)...how about a ficticious (sp?) US vs. Britain naval war?  This would give the hellcats good competition because everyone else enjoys flying spits ;)

I think that #4 (Bombers over Germany), could be a great set-up, but could be the worst ever if CT numbers are low.  There would also have to be an additional incentive to fly bombers.  Mostly something to shorten the flight time, perhaps airstarts (can they be done?), 10K bases or wind layers that push the bombers first toward Germany with a 200 mph boost(from 0 - 2K) then a 10K giant updraft.

Solomons.  :)  Raxx is working on the terrain, hopefully after 1.10 is released it will not be long before the terrain is blessed.

Would be good for lots of carrier fights, and good to have some P-40Bs running around as well.

Buzz is right and the Med would be wonderful.  Not only did Martlets get used, but there were straight up USN Wildcats, Dauntlesses and Avengers (Grumman model) in Operation Torch.  :D  Several USN escort carriers were used in this operation.   They also were ferrying P-40Fs.  :)

Think all of these sound good, but like the rest of the Hellcats i want PTO.  Now that the P40 is gonna be here and some more Rising Sun planes and more USN plane this may turn into a real popular scenario. The Midway idea is yummy, sure hope that one happens, and by the way Drunky you would look good in a IJN plane, lol but i think Sake would have to replace your beer! Oh by the way that is STAG beer you drink right?

Good ol' HiJacker and his stag... :D I have to agree with the Hellcats on that one, although all of the possibilities look good! We broke off from the hellcats to form a much needed Japanese squad, but the PTO setup is still the basis we work from. Realistically, ANY setup that gives them the kitty and F4u-1 or /d and gives us at least the zeke and /or the tony or george, is viable. Add the new birds we should have in 1.10 and it will become interesting! I look forward to it!

27th Sentai would naturally prefer PTO or CBI settings.

I can't stomach the thought of a Midway setting without the B5N, though.   It doesn't work for me trying to imagine Hinomaru on the TBM.   That just ain't right.

Lotta nice planes to check out in 1.10 though.  I wouldn't even  mind a two-sided fantasy battle in Perdonia, Axis v Allies, with all new planes enabled so the CT goers don't have to go to the Main if they're itching to fly one of the new kites.

Later war planes could be perked at varying levels and/or based at an opposite side of the map...
