Grun it's not.  The pony's radiator is VERY fragile and 9 times out of 10 it is the first part of my plane to get damaged when I'm flying the pony.  Also I lose the rad in my pony a lot more than I see the D9s I'm shooting at lose theirs...  Then again, I also get shot down more often in my pony than the number of times I shoot down D9s...

Dunno if the D9 radiator is too vulnerable from 6oc, but I've noticed that the P51 bursts into flames very easily with a quick burst.  It's like a fast Zeke in that respect.  Overall the D9 seems tougher than the P51, both when I fly in them and against them.

I goto disagree RA. I think the pony is tough as hell and can take alot of damage. Interesting thing I noticed was that they D,B are impossible to hit if they are speeding away from you. Could possibly be a network issue as its in front and moving away. Anyways its hard to hit it with my 190A8 (which has 4 20mm cannons BTW) and when I do hit them, they never ever simply flame up. Goto hit them a few more times.

we'll prolly find a very diverse set of opinions on p51d damage modeling... here's mine.

the tail.. in particular the vert stab is incredibley poorly constructed by demented dwarves using metric tools and sae fastners.

And, something is obviousy incorrect about pixel tensile strength back there.. possibly the ponys silver tail pixels are more fragile than blue or green ones...

...in fact the right angle silver pixel strength at all the pony's right angle intersects are suspect... the wings virtually (pun intended) leap off the plane when they pass anywhere near a single .303 bullet sprayed at 'em in a snapshot from d1.3 or, for that matter every time another enemy planes makes a close HO pass, misses every shot he squirts at yah, only to have yer cheezey silver pixel wings plucked off when you fly thru his wake turbulance.

in addition, the planes control surfaces are obviously built by fishermen... trolling thru a MA feeding frenzy in a pony always results in leaving behind bright shiny defective silver pixel aileron, elevator, rudder and flap parts as irresistable fluttering descending lures for the kill stealers and bottom feeders..

All negative commentary on the non-existent physical strength and durability of the p51 aside, i think it's the most patriotic of the USAAF entries, and in fact they can often be seen streaking the skys of the MA with stirring 4th of july-like flaming descending wingless fuselage skyrocket displays..

on the other hand, we all know it's radiator and prestone cooling system, coupled with it's magnificent self leaking fuel tanks and seemingly immune to longevity oil system are the finest in arena play.

It really is a shame the dora's radiator is so damn sub standard.

Kurt Tank should be shot.

The P51 Radiator is a magnet for bullets and ack, its always the 1st thing to get hit, and hit it does, way more than my experience with a 190D.  (and i do fly it a reasonable amount)

And lets not get started on the vert stab - one word: glass...

Ask yourself this:

What is the difference between a 190A series and the D9?

Its nose is longer! more chances to hit! woot! woot!

there is a reason for the P51's leaky cooling system , it is a BRITISH eng, and we all know of BRITISH cars ability to overheat and spring leaks ( see jaguar, triumph, MG , austin healy, etc )

I midaired a B17 with my pony tonight. I was firing from 600yds down to 50yds (yes, dead six), and then pushed under the buff's belly (to avoid a rad hit). My windscreen was filled with Flying Fortress. It looked like the buff was still in one piece (relatively, I'll review the film tomorrow), but I heard the crash and my tailwheel was damaged. When I looked back the buff was all busted up. He was concentrating on the CV under him. :)
