IIRC they should be glad they got a Hawk model which was not in use in BoF (high octane fuel) instead that Dewoitine.

In RL(tm) Hispano-Suiza Y-12 engine didn't have enough power to fight with Me's and Hispano HS-404 cannon was junk.
Finns had MS.406 fighters wich had same cannon and  those were ripped away and mg151/20 cannons or 12,7 mm ShVaK MGs installed instead.
Morane-Saulnier 406/410 had also same engine  with D.520 thought earlier sub-type. There were also reason why Finns were converting their Moranes to use Russian Klimov M105P engine.

btw Finns couldn't ever achieve top-speeds French gave to MS406. Factory claims were.. ehmm.. optimistic :D

Staga,

I read a book of Ms406 and it told that there were moranes serving in FAF with hispano cannons.
Pilots told it was very powerful, more than MG151/20, but also very unreliable.
"usually not working when you needed it most"
This is far fetched, but I *think* I read about changing MG weapons to higher caliber with one reason being this unreliability.

The 1st experimental (experiments were done in real Battle of Britan combat) Spitfires to have the 20mm Hispano cannons installed had a lot of trouble with gun stoppages, which was apparently due to the way the 20mm guns were installed in the wings...
