This map has something for everyone!  (And feeds 550+ well)
Large furballs, small skirmishes, sneaks, GV vs GV only, high and low alt bases, CVs galore, defense opportunities everywhere, tons of quick action if you know where to look, mind boggling strat, great GV spawn points, gnarly canyons, etc. etc. etc.

It's built for game-play.
Thank you and Salute!

Yeah, this is a great terrain!  After taking off from a 12k for a bombing mission, I then upped from a vehicle field deep in one of the canyons!  Great opportunities for some very diverse aspects of game-play!  :D

I'll be honest, I wasn't very impressed with this terrain and there are still a few aspects of it I don't like (i.e. the completely circular land mass), but gameplay isn't one of them.

I just had an absolute BLAST canyon fighting and defending my base high on the plateu in a P-47. I got into this awesome 2 vs 2 fight against a Spitfire and P-38. We tumbled, tossed, and turned, and when it got dirty, we dove down and screamed through the canyons at 500mph+.

I ended up landing a 7 kill sortie. On the way back to base I started really taking in the terrain. The canyon area is a masterpiece.

That was definitely a better gameplay experience than I'm used to.

The lower landed areas where I spent the majority of my time up until now seem dominated by that one hideous texture. Do you know which one I'm talking about? Its got sort of a polkadot pattern. Anyway, I didn't see much of it in the rock / canyon area and that was change for the better.

Overall, I believe there is some great gameplay to be had on this map. Some of the fields are frustrating with the runways ending in mountainsides... acutally... a large number of fields have this problem to some degree. Other than that, I think this could be one of the best maps in AH. It just needs some tweaking.

Was this based on the beta map?

Thx, Eskimo - bastige :)

One of the problems that I'm having with the 512x512 map is that it's hard to get a "big picture" of what's happening in the arena.  Even if I turn everything off, the sheer number of fields overwhelms the view that I get.

I can't help but wonder if we don't need two clipboard views (or a toggle between two maps.)  One display would be full screen and show the entire arena.  Maybe this display only needs to show a tiny field icon (not the large one currently in use.)    Dunno, stretching here ...  The second display would be our current display.

The clipboard is the neatest piece of software in Aces High ... I'm sure Hitech will figure out a way so we can readily view the arena.

Heh. And sorry for all those things we were calling you on squad channel. ;)

I stll think it would help alot if you could toggle off all icons and just see the map and grid and dardots and sector counters.  Then you could zoom into an area of interest and pick a field.

This map has revealed the AK's secret....

When designing it, they were unable to disguise the fact that it is based on their home planet --  MARS!!!   Yes, the AK's are Martians....and they have been living among us!!!

Luckily, none of them has yet mated with a human.

Dont like the looks of the clipboard map.  Damned ugly in fact.

Im not one to be amused by sheep, pizza and beer bottles built on the terrain but hey, playing in the game it works just fine, for me.

The map design was discovered when one AKer threw his pink thong on the floor in the shape you see. HTC would not let them use pink so they made it look like water but kept the flesh color.

The AKers next design will be a pink dildo. This is a known fact.

I like the map.  The AK's obviously worked very hard on it.  Most of the complaints seem to revolve around the size and the altitude of some of the bases.   I know the altitude of the bases is being worked on, so hopefully those complaints will be taken care of.

About the size issue, I think the biggest problem is the one Curly mentioned.  Tough to get the big picture and that makes it tough to find fights.

I guess my question is this:  Are we limited to 256x256 or 512x512?  I know we can go smaller, but I don't think that is what we want.  I mean, could we have a map that is 384x384?  You know, split the difference as it were.

Oh well, just rambling.

Yes, but you could go 512x512 and only use 3/4 of it.  Like put a large mindeneao in the middle and leave 1/3 water.

This may may be too large for 400 players.

Btw, I sent HT a new elevation file to look at that lowered the alts.  The max alt would be around 7.3k.  Average around 2-3k.

They're going to tweak some textures to their liking.

[scratch that]

Also if you could toggle icons off so to see dar dots and sector counters, that would help too.

I just noticed that this can now be done.  You can look at the map and sellect only radar dots and bars!  The easiest way yet to find the mass furballs.
