Frame Rate. If you average over 40 let me know how :)
« on: September 22, 2001, 01:22:00 PM »
I am running a PIII 500mhz with 384MB RAM and I have a eVGA GeForce2 33MB DDR vid card.  I am running DX8 on Win 98.  I average about 24-32 frame rate in 1024x768 16bit mode, looking out the front window in a fighter.

It seems like I should get a higher frame rate.  Any tweaks or ideas (besides a new computer) that you could offer would be good.

Or if you are getting really high frame rates post what your specs/hardware and what resolution you run in so I can compare notes.

I average about 70 - 80 fps (1024x768 32 bit color) with:

Tbird 1.3 @ 1314 Mhz
GF2 GTS with 12.41 drivers
win2k sp2
384 mb pc 133 cas 2

My monitor refreshes at 85 Hz, so I can't get any high fps then that.

I've written several performance guides in the hardware forum that you can probably find by searching.  (I think I named it "optimal performance settings" and there were 2 parts.)

You probably won't be able to get too much more out of a p3 500 though.  :(

Discod, if you have $300, go to www.mwave.com  or another vendor and get a motherboard bundle.  Epox EP-8K7A with 1.4 GHz Athlon and 256 MB PC2100 seems to work well for AH.  Your graphics card is fine.

Thanks.

I guess I had better bite the bullet and upgrade my MB and proccessor.  So now where's the best place to get a good MB like Asus or Abit and where can I get a real good deal on a processor?   :D

I get 45 fps average  :(

ASUS A7M266 FSB mobo
512 Crucial 2100 RAM
7200rmp HDD
ASUS GEFORCE 3 Deluxe 64Megs
SBLIVE X-Gamer 5.1
12.81 det 4 drivers
NO AntiAliasing on
90% resources free
Only MS FF2 J-stick and temp checking (vid card/cpu) programs running in background.
Running AH
1280X1024 res
32 bit
mip mapping on and the other thing checked

I have tried a lot of things, I cant get it to go above 45-50 fps  :(

Maybe AH is not optimized for the GF3?

Suggestions?

I get about 55fps on my system, which is about 10 more than I did on the same system with a GeForce2 GTS instead of the GeForce3.

Athlon Clasic at 700 Mhz
512 Mb PC133 RAM
GeForce3 64 Mb using the 21.81 drivers
SoundBlaster Live! 5.1
18 Gb Seagate Barracuda 7200 rpm Ultra SCSI3 hard drive
12x Pioneer SCSI3 DVD drive
Windows 98SE
DirectX 8a
Aces High running in 1280x1024 in 32 bit.

Discod,
Go to www.pricewatch.com  and check it out.  Check out various Tech webpages for the latest systems specs. like www.tomshardware.com,  www.anandtech.com,  so on and so on, there must be over 100 tech websites, just look at their links.

Drill,
Go to www.nvidia.com.   click on support, then drivers.

Thorns   ;)

P.S. I tried the hyperlinks to Tomshardware.com and Anandtech.com, and they don't work(I have no idea), so just type them in your browser, because they are valid websites.

um... but I get 40fps at that resolution - I'm going to push the card as hard as I can!  It is standing up to it just fine.

And actually, since I posted that, I started trying the new Dx8 version of AH, (I'd kept forgetting before) and my framerate at the same resolution and color depth is averaging between 55 and 60!

I was happy before, now I'm just giddy.  :)
