Despite my general dislike for the new map, my scores are generally up. My fighter K/D is way up. This, I believe is due to the fact that this map forces one into fighters with excellent high- altitude performance (in my case the Bf 109G-10 and P-51D). Honestly, I'm finding it difficult to fly planes like the P-40 and FM-2 because I seem to spend 90% of my sorties dodging high flyers who come roaring down at every opportunity. It's like being a one-legged man in a bullfight. Yeah, I generally have no trouble avoiding these attacks, but it takes much of the fun out of the game when you can't fly the aircraft you wish to, or are constantly in the defensive mode. Both the P-40s and FM-2 were low altitude fighters, which are out of their element fighting at 20k+. Ok, the F4F-4 and A6M2 are better than those up high, but they're still too slow to compete with Mustangs, Doras and Messerschmitts that seem to dominate the arena more now than ever.
So, I seem to be killing tons of bombers, but that's quickly becoming boring too. Moreover, with so many high flying enemy, it has become essential to fly fast-climbing, fast movers more than ever before. The net result being that one tends to encounter bombers more frequently. What's more, finding a formation of Lancasters while in a G-10 usually means 3 easy kills. The addition of the 3 buff mode has made it very easy to run up rediculous scores flying high-alt fighters. Seriously, I'd really consider trading my inflated K/D for a lot more low level action where I can enjoy the newly added early war fighters. If nothing else, let's rotate the maps again, please.
Maybe HTC would consider the suggestion to set aside a corner of the new big map(s) for early war aircraft. That would go along way towards putting some more entertainment back into the game (for me at least).
My regards,
Widewing
