The Mosquito (my normal ride) is completely unusable on this map.  I'm not sure why, but I just get slaughtered in it now.

I've been trying the P-51B with no success, but that included one stupid death.  Fer cryin' out loud, I climbed a P-51B to 30,000ft only to get bounced by a P-47D-11 and Spitfire Mk IX that were at 35,000ft.  The altitude is out of control.

After that I took a Spitfire Mk IX up because it can handle high altitude, and I normally don't fly Spits because of the squeaking that is attached to them.  Killed two B-17Gs out of a formation before the B-17 gunner got my engine.

Fighting at high alt is something one learns by doing. If I were planning to spend a lot of time at 30k, I'd take the P-51B over just about anything, with the Ta 152, or Spit XIV getting the nod if I were to take a perk ride. Up there, the B stang is one bear of a performer. Spit IXs? No problem, keep it fast and they simply cannot cope. Jugs are another problem. Nonetheless, you can still out-turn them and have an edge in acceleration. Up above 32k the Jug is formidable, but careful flying allows you to cope with them. Frequently, pilots don't realize that accelerated stalls will be encountered at much higher true airspeeds than they are used too. many of them simply spin out of turns. Some recover, some don't.

I know that you are no fan of Luftwobble aircraft, but if you want to fly something that really rocks up high, try the Ta 152. A 262 could catch you, but he may be sorry that he did. It's also a much better buff killing platform than the Spitfire.

Widewing,

I have no qualms about German aircraft.  I had a 2 kill sortie in a Bf109G-2 the other day.

The problem I had wasn't that I was at 30k feet, it was that they were 5k above me.  I think I would have beat the P-47, but the Spit meant that I couldn't turn.

EDIT:

The death to the P-47/Spit team was not my stupid death.  My stupid death was colliding witha  Ju88 that I was straffing.

The new map forces people up into the air I prefer. :D

Yet, I find myself in ground vehicles, too much, and outside of that I'm in the attack role. Panzers are emitting this siren song requiring me to kill them at all costs (even driving a panzer myself). :p

I do feel that the new map divides the flight/ground roles, and the time requirement in engaging air-ground has grown. Ground Strike missions (against assets) are usually longer missions, too. That's my perception, anyway.

Fighter score is way up, Buff score is way down (can't be bothered). GV score is about the same. But I think that is because I wasn't happy with my fighter score last tour so I started flying 'fighters' rather than jabo's. C.205/spit/temp are all good for me this tour.  Stuck to Typh for most of last tour hence the fantastic attack score but less than great fighter score. Not sure if the new map has anything to do with it to be perfectly honest. Still getting a couple of funny 'base suppression' sorties in and having fun with the spit/c.205 furballing, very refreshing after the B'n'Z typh.

I really haven't noticed that much of a change in the fights I've been finding, I'm bouncing about as often as I'm being bounced true the alt has been forced higher because of the map but that really hasn't effected the game for me.  The wildcats are great fun still in the larger furballs I've been in but are too slow to deal with much of anything 1v1 unless the opponent makes a gross error in judgement.  All in all my K/D ratio is down from it's allready dismal norm, but that is because I haven't been flying for K/D ratio like I usually do, instead this tour I've just been fighting, and if that means I'm fighting at a E or numerical disadvantage so be it.  Learn a lot from being in the hole in so many fights ;).  Also a lot of my deaths seem to be from doing strafing or JABO attacks.

Is that the couch over there >>>>   ??

Let me lay down and work out my conflicts..

I have a love/hate relationship with score.

I use it as a personal challenge.

The problem, I'll never turn down a good fight :) I won't be the one extending............unless I'm "focused" as in:

Poop there's 3 cons inbound with alittle altitude with incoming "dots" behind them. "ding ding" you don't want to go there. You have the juice, take a break, get some altitude and then head back in....

LOL :D

Pretty focused last tour, didn't do too bad working it. Except for those occasional 1 on 1's. I'll NEVER turn one down :D

This tour ?? The difficulty of finding opposition to "work" at first found me going out to kill someone/anyone. Certain death in my world :) I do my best working the fur, not being on the deck in the middle of it.

I've spent this tour on the deck in the middle of it :D

And I might add that the monthly payments I've been sending to Lazs and Hooligan for those "down on the deck in the middle of it" lessons that have yet to materialize and are more than likely going into a Healey's gas tank.

And I want to tell you two, that I ain't HAPPY about THAT !!

So to answer the question, I think I've landed twice............

And one of those was UGLY..

My K/D for the MA is up this month and I'm mostly flying the F4F-4 with two sorties in the F4U-1C.  In fact, I think my F4F-4 K/D ratio is the best I've ever had and the F4F-4 is certainly not a fast aircraft.

poopie... I agree.   the "score" part is inedceiferable and unimportant to me but.... the stats that HTC has provided us are the greatest part of the sim.   You can use them to trac just about anything if you care to.   A really great personal aid to enjoying the game.    The expanded format is really neat showing what you kill and what kills you.   there are so many stats tracked that you can be surprised easily.... sometimes you are not doing what you think you are.

I love to hear guys get on here and talk about how we are crazy to say that we can't find a fight and that they have no trouble finding fights all the time and then.... you look at their kills per hour and it is like 0.5 or something.

My K/S is down considerably (from often having to land after a kill or two due to lack of action).

My K/T is considerably down (spending way too much time often flying around empty air trying to find a fight).

My K/D is way down (getting so bored with the MA I'm getting careless once I actually DO find a fight, doing stupid things like ramming).

My hit% is down, again due to carelessness caused by boredom.

My total fun is down.  That's the one stat which really matters.

Its the late war varient of the F4F.  Admittedly, its performance is similar to many mid to early war planes, but technically it entered service in early 1944 if my memory is right ;)  But that would be like claiming the P-38L is an early war plane. :p

Er, um, well, yeah, I knew that!  I was just testin' ya!

New map?  Oh, right!  Malta.  Burma was sweet though.  Cya in the CT.
