What Movie(s) to see this weekend?
« on: July 13, 2002, 11:12:32 AM »
Seems to be quite a selection:

MIB2
Reign of Fire
Road to Perdition

I've already seen:

Bourne Identity
Minority Report

I have no plans to see:

Like Mike
Lilo and Stitch
Scooby Doo

If you're a handsomehunk like SOB you might like:

Holloween 8

Just seems there are quite a bit of movies that aren't on the horrible side out right now.  I guess summer is here officially.

Of the three listed at the top... anyone seen all/any of them?  I will be seeing MIB2 regardless... but Reign of Fire is definately on the bubble.

I saw MIB2, and I liked it.  In some ways, it was a bit better than the first (at least IMO).

I am going to see Road to Perdition, can't pass up a movie with two of the best actors of their respective generations.

As for Reign of Fire, I am interested in seeing it.  It looks like a good "popcorn" movie, much like MIB2 was.

Saw Reign of Fire yesterday and I must say it's not too bad. Another one of the "Kill the Monster" flick club, it does a pretty good job of keeping you entertained. Bale (Quinn) plays a popsicle leader who ducks trouble every chance he gets (childhood trauma strikes again). McConaughey (Van Zant) is a slightly nuts CO who wants to kick bellybutton and take names. Toss a few dozen CGI dragons into the mix and it gets interesting. As you'd expect, the special effects are damn fine, and the story makes fairly good sense too. Deja, you'll probably get a kick outa the sound effects. There's something wicked about hearing a dragon fly around inside the theater! Just make sure you pay attention to the opening 15 minutes, or you'll get lost. Oh, and watch out for some of the dialogue; a few brits got drunk before spouting off their lines in places. There's a few questions that'll come up, such as"How come all our superior firepower didn't wipe those things off the planet?" Let those slide or get creative and mentally fill in the gaps. Otherwise, a damn fine flick and definitely not a yawnfest!

Side note: Beware the five ton chatterbox who sits right in front of you!

This weekend I am going to watch "Valdez is Coming" "The Steel Lady" "Sahara" and "The Desperate Hours" at least. :)
Might pop over to the cinema and watch MIB2.

Went and saw MIB2.  Not too bad... but the dog steals the show.  Judge for yourself what that says about the rest of the movie.

Hanks wasn't mean enough for ya? :)

Solid actor. Not an emotional film, but one of great beauty. The scene where he deals death in the rain while music plays will remain with me forever. Just outstanding camerawork.

LOL

Last week, I saw the last 1/3 of Minority Report. I went home with a blah impression. I thought the movie might have stepped on its own peeny by being too complex.

I saw the movie from the begining this weekend, and I really, really liked it. I love the futuristic stuff, but when the film moved into the part about the child being taken from his dad, it grabbed me by the heart. I was moved. The theme is twisty. I guess nothing on earth is really new, but this film isn't what you are used to. It really is a creative movie. Two Thumbs Up :D

I'll catch Road to Perdition next week.  I'll probably sneak out and see Reign of Fire this week with my little kitten from work.  My wife said she'd rather not see it until I give the "not too gory" ok on it.

Oh I agree. I love tom hanks and the filming of that film was gorgeos. But the next day I was just trying to put my finger on what Tom added to it. He didnt pooch the thing but he didnt light it up either.

don't think I need to see MIB2 considering I live with this guy. I hear enough from him as it is.
