Microsoft claims to own the rights to the OpenGL API.

They are not going to be happy until they have absolute control of your computer.  Bastiages!

Well, you have to admit that MS does have the market cornered on the supply of buggy and error infested OS' in the world.    :p
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Time for another anti-trust suit.

Sounds to me like Billy-Bob had this planned.  That article says they've been aquiring IP rights and have quite a library of IP stuff.  Why bother getting it if you're not going to use it for something, right?

All about increasing the bottom line (or Billy-Bob's wallet)

I seem to recall a couple/few years back hearing about a memo circulating inside M$ about charging anual subscription fees for using windows.  I admit I was kinda skeptical about that one... but take a look at XP.  'nuff said.

In a rare occurance I agree with DjV, time for another anti-trust suit.

Actually, it is not about the bottom line.  It runs a bit deeper than that.

Consider this; If this holds up, then no other operating system will be able to use 3D vertex based graphics without paying a license fee to Microshaft.  That would kill any chance Linux has of getting into the gaming market.
Apple would be murdered.  This would put the final nail in the coffin for MAC users that like games.

Games companies, in general,  that rely on OpenGL are in for serious trouble.

The vertex is the foundation for all 3D graphics now.  This will be a major blow to the entire 3D graphics market that is not using DX.

Anti-trust suits would do any good.  The government pretty much screwed the pooch on that one already.

I don't blame Microsoft anymore. I blame the people who keep them in business.

They don't exist without the countless public  that support them.

Just got to hope MS doesn't get through with this..
Though, everything is possible in US if you have enough money.
Surely wouldn't go through within EU courts in similar case.

There is no doubt in my mind it will go through.  Our government can't even fight MS.  The anti-trust case was a joke and really shows how inept our juducial system is.

Quite right Kanth, and MS knows they got the public by the short hairs,...not that anyone gives a hoot.

And of course, the simple answer will eventually come forward, "What else you gonna do?"  Our typical thought process shines like a beacon to the greedy, power hungry corporations.

I don't belong in this time period.  Where words like ethics, morality, justice, and loyalty are smeared everyday by politicians and huge corporations and people just don't give a damn about anything but themselves.

Let's rephrase that:

how easily our juducial system can be bought.

For me the answer is, not buy anything from them.

I'm doing my part, now if everyone else would just get the fek in step.

i did you one better - i worked for |\/|$ for 20 months, & while i did so i gave confidential security info & software to "2600" magazine fans, circulated disinformation in the office, bad mouthed our products to customers and stole yellow sticky notes, pens, mouse pads, etc.

Looked at XP and don't like it one bit!  Still running 98SE.  When support stops for this OS I will be SOL.  Maybe linux will be the way to go.  Someone will have to introduce a new OS before Gates has us all in his back pocket.  I just can't see the public being fooled by MS to the point where the public is "ball & chained" to MS.  If that happens then maybe it will be time to go computerless.
