In the US: Which radio station to you listen to?
« on: July 16, 2002, 04:28:50 AM »
It has to be said. All British radio stations are crap :( They just can't get it together with the format. It will be Play a record, remembering to talk all through the intro, then start talking again 1 minute from the end and cut it off before it's finished.

And then - 5 minutes of BS in the form of wanky phone-ins, infantile games, traffic news (for areas 50+ miles from where I'm driving), news and weather for 3 mins every hour (making 5% of the air time), and of course the radio station jingles with the self proclamation that this radio station is the best thing since sliced bread.

I really like the American format: 8-10 records back to back, commercials kept to a minimum (every 30 mins?), plus FM stations that can be heard 100 miles away, instead of 40 max like here.

With the Internet, I can now listen to anything I want. Right now, I'm tuned to KFOG, San Francisco. Sure beats the hell out of Capital

Tell me your station, and music type.

For modern rock, CD101 in Columbus is great.  You can hear them at http://www.cd101.com.

I agree that British radio stations suck.  They seem to have a catalog of about 12 songs that they play over and over again.  It always seems odd when I mention British bands to Brits and they have never heard of them.

KBCO bites... KTCL is the stuff of legend.

KBCO used to be great until they turned corporate and have to abide by 'the list'  (AA)

Oedipus, I know what you're talking about. Hiya neighbor!

Beet1e, I have the same problem here too during the morning commute... nobody wants to play music, and they're all trying to be so damned funny and shocking and irreverent... Stern wannabes (I can't stand the original Stern either).

I usually listen to a tape or NPR.

Here in Southwest VA I usualy listen to 102 JAMZ (rap and other modern day songs), 93.1 (oldies), and 98.8 (good ole country). Sometimes I can even find some good bluegrass stations.
