I've been to the Mighty 8th Museum on my trip to Savannah, Georgia. Spent half a day and could've spent all day there. Lots to see, lots to do. Plenty of film auditoriums (each showing different war-time newsreels), exhibits of memorabilia, great stories. The mission recreation is very well done. Large, airconditioned facility. I bought a couple of great videos in the gift shop. The Mighty 8th Museum is just off Interstate 95, north of Jacksonville. As you drive north, its on the right-hand side. Last time I was there, there was a giant B-36 bomber in the back and an F4 Phantom in the front.
Fantasy of Flight is located off of Interstate 4 between Tampa and Orlando, just east of Lakeland. As you're heading east, the facility is to the left (north) and is easily visible from the highway. The "rooms" are well done and entertaining for mainstream folks and it has a wonderful collection of vintage aircraft that changes based on what's out for air shows and filmmaking. I've been there a couple of times. The flight simulator boasts motion, but the graphics and sound weren't even up to Air Warrior 3 standards. This was a couple of years ago so maybe they've upgraded their software.
Warbirds Museum is in Kissimmee (Orlando, more or less) and is a working museum, meaning that its like walking around a mechanics shop. You walk where the welders are welding and the mechanics are "mechanicing". Its a great insight into what those guys do to get the warbirds flying again. No air conditioning except in the front office where the gifts and cashier are located. The collection changes based on what projects are brought in, what owners have collected their finished airplanes, and what's out at airshows. Stallion51 is just down the runway. Allow 2 hours to see it all. Its small compared to the Mighty 8th Museum.
