Yes,

He gave lessons to  Steve Vai,  Hurt Hammet,  and some other kick bellybutton guitar players from the 80's.

Of course we know who Joe is... Last year's G3 tour with Joe and  John Petrucci was increadible. Talk about speed and technique. Could never get into Via's music.. sounds like me playing as fast as I can after a bottle of Merlot.

You guys are like.... old.

Of course, I only see what he posts here and what he does in the MA.  I know virtually nothing about the man.  I think its important for people to realize that we don't really know squat about each other.... definately not enough to use words like "hate".

He's technically an excellent guitarist but I just don't like his sound...Surfin' With The Alien and all that.

(Nor did I like attending an "Alcatraz" Concert and seeing that Yngwie had been replaced with Steve Vai...hate that guy's sound too.)

Not really a guitar solo-oriented album, but i do play all of it :)

Some jazz stuff on the intro/ourto tracks, the rest is funk/r&b stuff

I did listen to him, and Steve Vai for a while.  Kind of went through a phase back in the Surfing w/ alien days.  In the ned. it all souded very sterile (for lack of a better term).  They are very skilled, but it all lacked the character and emotion I find in the music of others.  I think that is why they aren't more popular.  Sure, any guitar player would want their skills, but I'm not sure they want to sound like them.  Awesome, yet bland if that's possible.

Clapton did some electric blues stuff a few years ago, that was awesome.   SRV, great stuff.  These are the guys off the top of my head, there are others.  What makes them great is they really pull the emotion from their gut, and translate it into music.  It's more than just playing super fast with perfect skill.

Could I play that way, heck no.  Do I have a right to criticize, as a cunsumer, I sure do.
